all the photos i took today are in this folder: http://tharf.com/images/lift/
the first couple are crappy night time pictures. "tharf 13" is the first good picture. however if you are interested you can see how my truck matches up to my friend's tahoe. he was instrumental in getting my lift install finished.
i know it is on FSC so some of you may not care to go there but if you wanted to you could check the lift install thread out (http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126501). we did have to custom fabricate some stuff because my lift kit was used and missing pieces. the biggest thing we had to make was drop steering linkage.
here's a picture:
http://pic14.picturetrail.com/VOL564/494166/657784/68218588.jpg
the pix on the grass are in my front yard and the other spot is affectionately known as the "f-ck pits" around here. there are definitely some great shots here so i am going to go out on a limb and say you might enjoy viewing them all. :D
i'm sorry to the dialup guys - you're going to have to wait a little bit for smaller versions.
there are also two movies of me climbing a sand hill (but losing the battle because i'm still only a 2wd poser) i made it up once but didn't like how much the tires spun, i'm trying to be as nice as possible to my poor 10 bolt.
here's a sample pic:

You need to hack the front bumper up :D What made you go with the old 4" rancho instead of the 6?

the front bumper does need some work as do a few other things. the bumper doesn't rub at all as it is so i havent bothered with it yet. the lift has only been done for a couple days now.
i bought my kit on ebay without really looking into it enough. the price was too good to pass up and there was only like 1 hour left on the auction. i have a few things planned to get at least 6" out of my kit.

Your truck looks awesome with the extra lift and 38's. Glad you use it, those rock crawler beadlock's look great!!! You do need to cut the bumper back with those cut outs.

i'm sorry man but that looks like shit :imo
run 35's and that would look pretty cool but i hate the stuffed look and that's the look your truck has...plus your IFS and 10 bolt will like those 35s alot more

Damn Zuby, don't knock the kid. It's his truck he can do what he wants. :D
You aren't exactly towering over those tires yourself.
It looks cool man, congrats on finally getting lifted. :bowtie:

it is close up front but i am still going to go up some more. zuby, i'm sorry you don't like it but i really am all set with running 35s. i could have run 35s with no rubbing as it was with the body lift and cutouts. i ran the 38s in back for a week before the lift, no rubbing no matter what i did. i dont push my luck and expect it to hold up just fine. if i wanted a real capable offroad machine it wouldn't be this truck. and if it was it certainly wouldn't have 38s on it. i abused this truck when it was stock and when i first had my 31" xterrains. it made it through every situation i threw at it and some were downright stupid. i'm done with all that, i just wanted to go big and i love the way it looks and so does everyone else whom im friends with. where i'm from lifted trucks aren't just uncommon - they don't even exist. the biggest tires i'd ever seen on the street before i got involved in CTW MA were the 35s on H2s
in cali or texas where lifted trucks are common, big tires are less impressive as you know how much they limit the capability of the truck. i'm not trying to build a show truck or be an attention whore but i weighed the pros and cons and decided i wanted to run 38s. different stokes i guess. however i would like to say that if i had the money, i would LOVE to be able to run a big cognito lift but that just isn't in the cards for me right now.
everyone who had nice things to say, thank you very much for your compliments. i worked hard to get it where it is and there is still plenty of big and small things to do. bggrnchevy - how much was your canback? i really want to get one, i think it would really go well with the "military" look i have going on so far.
thanks for your feedback - keep it coming.

thArf: Your truck looks badass man, I like how it sits. I'm not a big fan of the "stuffed" look, but I'm glad you installed those cut out flares to give you some more room. You should run a bumper like Dark Eternal has, I think it would look good with your truck. What suspension lift are you running? Pro comp? Anyway, I like your truck man, and I like the look you're going for.
Don't let anyone bash your truck.. most of us like it and I know you're proud of it. Everyone has to start somewhere. The only reason why I have a newer truck is because I've been working since i was 14. And i'm lucky enough to still live with my parents. I started out with a crappy 1992 toyota pick up, with a 3.0 liter V6, 4" trailmaster suspension lift, 3" body, on 33" tsl radials. Man that thing was ugly, but i liked it. lol.. i wish i had some pictures of that beast

You always look for an opportunity to say that. Pretty pathetic.
thArf, what's next for your truck? Just gonna enjoy it for awhile?
Also, did you regear it?

You'll see it eventually. Especially if you join up with CTW MA.

I am going to get a TJM bumper for my truck when the money is available. I think the TJM is the best OBS bumper available. I'll add a couple pictures of it after I finish this reply.
The cutout flares definitely work well with the set up. They alleviate the stuffing a little. My truck is low as it was, with my 3" body lift I sat about level with most regular 4x4 trucks. I only added 4" to it and I'm running 38s with only a little rubbing when at full lock. I took a ton of pictures of my installation of my cutouts and will someday write a tutorial of what I went through. The flares perfectly match the width of the tires in back and the tires stick out maybe an inch in front. I think it looks very proportional.
I am running an old style rancho kit. It has a couple differences, namely only a puny 4" drop subframe and beefy custom upper control arms. My friend Brad has a trailmaster 4 that he has worked over to get about 7 inches out of it and we are going to do the same to my truck as well. Right now I'm only at 5 in front and 4 in back.
Yotas are cool. My buddy got me into trucks and 4 wheeling in the passenger seat of an 85 yota with a home made wooden bed. :D

I was going to regear it but didn't because I didn't have the money available and its getting colder up here. I didn't want to wait too long, miss my oportunity and have to wait until spring to get it done. I insist on doing all my own work - including the gears and will go through the winter on the stock 3.73s.
Next -
Exterior: this week will see add a leafs in the back, ford keys in front, and some custom body lift tweaks. I need gears, better brakes, shocks (I'm still running the stockers), front bumper and something for the bed. I have a fiberglass cap that I'm going to put on for the winter but I want a canback or fiberglass tonneau cover. I also will add things like lights and a PA. =) Eventually will come a 14b in the form of a SF 6 lug with an e locker.
Interior: underseat box for my subs and other audio improvements. Foil everything. Leather buckets with homemade console. Im not sure where to go with it but it will get the total treatment.
Engine/Tranny: leave as-is with Hypertech tuning. (For now.)
Thank you all again for your compliments, I'm glad you approve of my choices. :shake:

So do your flames :read:
Like you are one to talk, you are running 40s with "IFS and 10 bolt" :read:
:pow:
real mature...i was just conveying my opinions and you just made a post to take shots at me....since when can we not say anything bad about a members truck? complete bullshit if you ask me. i was just telling him what i think would make his truck look 10x better. I'm sure he knows he doesn't have to listen since it is his truck.
thArf was mature enough to realize it's my opinion, i didn't bash him and call him an idiot for doing it....i just said it doesn't look good.
My flames are getting redone and atleast i have something custom done :read:
My "IFS an 10bolt" get abused and do fine but its with the tire size i should be running. I'm sitting twice as big as him, so should i be running 44s?
Like you always tell people adam, grow up :read:

guess you forgot i said IMO....doesn't that imply exactly what you are saying?
yah my next paint job will be all krylon :pow:
also, talk all the shit you want about my truck....doesn't bug me, i didn't build it for anyone else. plus i can take negative remarks, not like i'm gonna cry about it
If i post my truck up showing everyone the i expect to get blasted, not when i comment on someone elses truck. If that was the case should i flame you everytime you post in the offroad forum for not using your truck hard? didn't think so
ok i guess their was never a rule of thumb on tire size and lift  I could fit 38's on just a body lift. Just cuz you can do something doesn't mean you should :read:

It looks pretty good...do hack up that bumper tho...kinda defeats the purpose of cutouts. BTW, you didn't take pics of you cuttin the fenders when u did it, did you??? Im REALLY thinkin about cutouts and just don't feel comfortable enough till i see some pics of it being done...The truck does look a lil stuffed, but i guess its not too bad...

Tharf, truck looks good. I like the "blacked out" look.
Thank you very much. I only know one other person with a truck set up similar to mine and I posted pictures of it earlier in this thread. I think black trucks are so tight, if DE had his truck painted black I don't know what I'd do. =) I was thinking about it and our trucks are alike but opposite.
You - clean new white truck with big lift no cutting and street tires
Me - dirty older black truck with small lift lots of cutting and offroad tires
Neither is better, I'm just pointing it out. I don't know if I've ever said it but you definitely have built a tight ass ride as well.
I don't know much about lifted trucks, but I like it
Keep up the good work thArf :rocking:
It is always a good sign when a street guy likes an offroad truck. :D
PS: The girl says she likes your truck too.

how does it do with stock gearing and 38" tires. Looks pretty sick. o how many inches of lift do you have total?
thArf
10-05-2004, 02:06 AM
Thank you very much for the compliment. My stock gears are 3.73:1. It is slower but not as bad as I had imagined. I drive it slower now too so its almost seamless. I do want to upgrade to deeper gears (4.88) as soon as possible.
Total lift as of right now: ~13" soon it will be about 15"

That includes the heigth of your tires included with the suspension and body lift, I am assuming. Right?
yes that includes his tires and body lift
he is running a 3" body
a rancho that is set to 4" now, but he will be cranking the front and adding a AAL in the rear to get about 6"
thArf
10-05-2004, 10:19 AM
Adam - Yes. We will also be adding to my body lift for another .5-1" up front.
RedneckDude - I'll get them online asap and pm you the link.
Derek - Rancho is at 5 in front and 4 in back. =(
