I got a 03 1500 4x4 Silverado 1500 4.8L V8 Auto.

Tranny seems a little funny.

How much are you guessing the dealership will charge to put in a new one? I'm thinking just get a new one, don't hassle with a rebuilt one or whatever.

Are they probably the best place to go? I don't think I would go with an Aamco or anything.

"A little funny?"

:rofl2: Crooked service writers DROOL over guys like you.

Post up the symptoms, codes, etc.. you could only need a $37 part. But a Tranny shop would never tell you that.

Not to mention cost wise...FLT + all the necessary tools is still cheaper than a replacement at the dealership.

only if its more than I make at my day job.

I just have too much going on right now. I've been working 15 hour days for a while now and it's not going to let up any time soon. I don't want to make a commitment that I can't keep.

If you guys think it will cost that much, maybe I should ditch the truck and get a new truck with less miles. Are you thinking like 5k from stealership, 10k? or what?

Go somewhere other than the dealer and have a trans put in it. You really should find someone who isnt going to screw you on ti and have them check it out and make sure there is something wrong with the trans. Its better to have it rebuilt before it completely shits out. imo

One guy on here said the dealership charged 5K to put a trans in a suburban or something. I wouldnt have the dealership do that unless it was under warranty because they are going to fuck you.

You can put one in yourself , it's honestly not hard. I had 0 experience doing mine, you just need the proper sockets, a trans jack, and a couple of open ended wrenches.
Buy a bigger trans cooler and an external trans filter while you're at it.

700 core fee?
10 hours?

There is no reason at all for it to take more than 2 hours.

out of town for the next 2 weeks :(

I meant to do the swap. I'm guessing his 10 hour estimate doesn't include an hour to go pick up the tranny and 30 min to get back to the shop.

Leave 8.5 hrs to complete. I guess that includes a break for a six pack and some burgers? :head3:

Paid 1900 for mine -- rebuilt 4l60 with some goodies and a 3yr/36k warranty.
This was not through the dealer tho.

I bought mine through the dealer for two reasons. It comes with a transferable 3 yr/160,000 km warranty, labor included, and I could get it the next day. I wanted a Finishline stg. 3 but there was a 4 week wait and I needed my truck. I swapped it in myself but if it goes the labor will be someone else.
