Well, thought Id start a thread to track the progress of the 2500HD and whats to come seeing as how we all know its never REALLY done...:shake:

I started out with this....1500 LS 2wd, it was fun as a first vehicle.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC02737-1.jpg

Then, the 1500 got old, so I sold it and picked up one of these...
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC03298-1.jpg

Then after a lot of removing stuff from the old truck I ended up with this, a custom 12" ported box with 2 rockford P1's, Rockford Fosgate Amp, capacitor, and 7" in dash DVD.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC03305.jpg

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC03306.jpg

Then like everything else, I felt the need to be lifted :worship: so I got myself some of these...

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/0107090829a.jpg

and one of these...

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/0107090829.jpg

Then in addition to my BLACKBEAR tune I picked up some of these...
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/0305091854.jpg

and they looked like this...

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/0317091137.jpg

Picked up some new sparkplug wires while I was at it...
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/0317091136.jpg

THEN I got totally sidetracked and bought one of these....so much fun.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC02798.jpg

Then I got back on track and installed everything and it looks like this:head: :head:

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/DSC03365.jpg

and I proceeded to get me some of these... after learning PISMO takes its toll on trucks...

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i37/mountainbikeracer/images.jpg

and thats where im at now, huge thanks to Bsnyd21 ( Bryan) and Shsportsfan12 ( mike) for their help... mike continues to take wrenches in the face in order to get the headers done. FYI watch out for falling 13mm wrenches.

more to come...including one of these...

haha not yet, Ive been thinking about it because you can pick up LS based stuff really cheap right now, its hard trying to find a 8.8 rear end and T5 tranny in good condition. I think a turbo setup is more feasible right now...Its my DD and weekend Auto-X car so it gets neglected most of the time...

your just mad cause you kept putting yourself in the position to get hit with a wrench....not once, not twice, but three times I might add...you crawled under the truck saying " goddammit if I get hit one more time...."
either way..certainly not as :supergay: as that hunk of metal on your truck

Their Drag DR-28's with a 38mm offset...very similar to the sportmax 002's. Im looking for a clean set of Rota's or something to use with my kumho DOT slicks for the weekends

Yea for as much shit as I got in the beginning its worth it to see guys with Evo's STI's and most american muscle at the AUTO-x's frown when they get beat by a little mazda....Its my DD for driving hwy 17 ( If any of you know that road) twice a day...its about 30 miles on one of the most shitty highways in CA, but its fast and all corners...

yea, I got the wrong belt tensioner though, so I kinda rigged it. I just need to make it back to SLO and I can deal with the belt problem there, right now as I rigged it Im only getting about half wrap on the S/C Pulley, SO its inevitiably going to slip a bit under load or WOT, but just from light part throttle runs around town last night the under the curve power is rediculous! even with low boost....

he stated he was having issues with severe bogging, etc. was looking for some solutions. i had the same issue and it was due to a bad knock sensor. replaced it, and no more problems.

glad to hear it was only his spark plugs. t'was a bitch to replace the knock sensors.

Woah...Havent updated this shiz in a while!

A. The supercharger is now off and sold :( I got somewhat fed up with it and it was screwing me over while in College because this is my DD, couldnt get to class and what not lol.

B. The truck is more or less back to stock, I still have the Longtubes on there, but Im even back to the stock airbox.

C. Im in the works on a HSW plate kit, small shot, going for the clean install look.

D. Ive got Fox shocks all the way around now, with custom resi mounts in the front, 6000K HID's, and Colormatchin handles and buckets as we speak.

E. Ive ditched all the pillar gauge stuff for a Scangauge II and im LOVING it! I liked the "look' of the pillar, but when the shit hit the fan at then end of the day, you can still only monitor 3 gauges...

Hangin out too far. Tuck it in so it doesnt hang out past the body line. Also it looks like when you flew it will get hit by the traction bars. That might just be the pic tho.

Maybe its the chrome tip, the previous setup I did like though on how it was routed an all.

Had it tucked in farther, blew right on the tire...just had it extended a few inches. At full tuck I have about an inch and a half between the pipe and T-bar, so hopefully it wont be a problem.

Im kinda uneasy about those arms... The uniball cups dont have a much surface area evenly distributed from the tubes connecting to it. It looks like a weak design, but i could be wrong...

Take absolutely no offense to this in anyway......Because I love you dearly and would do dirty dirty things to you behind closed doors.......but I've seen stuff on your truck far more weak as far as design goes in areas I'd be more concerned with. The pictures taken of these arms really don't do it justice. The welding was pretty damn good for something temporary. Notice I just used the word temporary. There's a design we are working on and couldn't get them done in the time allowed, so we put these together to get him by for the time being. :humping:

I agree for ultimate strength, the tubes should be fish-mouthed so they wrap around the sides of the cup more, but for only the few hours of time I had,due to some un-forseen problems that arose on another design, the fact that they are upper arms so therefore not a load carrying control arm, and the fact that the uniball stud is only 3/4", I think anyone would be hard pressed to break the control arm, before the uniball stud if they some how put some strange load on them.....even the lead footed grizzly one :big_banana_Dance:.... hope this made some sense and I'm not coming off arrogant in any way, I always like to hear/ appreciate others opinions/ feedback

WRONG, broheim has a valid point. those arms look weak as fuck. the weld surface is scary. normally the tube is full welded around the uniball cup and a wrap between the two.

like it should have been done, and if your saying its due to hitting the spindle there are ways around that.

i will admit i didnt care to read the whole post above because i rarely get on here anymore, every thread seems to go off topic like the 150+ pages over a solid axle swap. but their has to be a reason for not fully welding each tube. either the uniball cup needs to be out further so that it doesnt hit the spindle like on the DBR 4wd kit or whoever built them was not thinking strait(not trying to hate). ive seen what lack of welding surface can do to bushings assemblies in the wrong place. doesnt matter if those UCA are made out of .250 wall 4130 and heat treated. there is a severe design flaw. im not shooting off, i know you have something to do with the building of these arms, take it as constructive criticism. im looking at it from this stand point, half the guys on this site that want long travel only do it because they want to jump their truck. the shock of doing something like that on suspension parts will take its tole very quickly and shows you whats under-build. the 4wd spindle are beafy as hell, LCA's im sure are pretty strong, steering looks fine, that leaves 1 weak link on the front end. in no way am i trying to be a hater or anything of that sort. i just dont want to see a truck stuck out in the dunes or someone hurt because of an easily fixed part. it sucks to say but id redesign the upper. if your really stuck on keeping the arms i'd tig some 4130 strap between the cup and tubing but thats just a band-aid for the problem.

You, again, missed the part where we agreed of the "flaw"..... Again, you missed the part that it was temporary to get him home...... Again, you seem to misunderstand that these aren't anything production nor permanent nor meant to be beat on in the dunes currently, etc etc. This isn't long travel, this isn't mid travel, this isn't shit. Simply something used to GET HIM HOME. Now, if you don't think that those are capable of that along with a little trashing....something's not right. I will throw the same design (flawed) on my truck and go beat the shit out of it to show what it can handle. I will film the whole thing if need be if that's what people want. There's a lot you're not seeing or understanding as of right now. Believe me, I understand where you are coming from, I'm not stupid....neither is anyone I work with.

where between the pic of the UCA and tie rods does it say it was temp? like i said before, im not gonna read through the whole thread before i comment because all gmfs threads are full of people bullshitting back and forth. i never said these were production and i never said he was going to beat on them in the dunes, i said a good number of people would and if he went and beat on them it wouldn't suprise me. i never read that these were temporary from the time the control arms were posted and it said "Mid Travel?". their is a monster shear point in the control arms so far. ever seen a weld shear right outside the HAZ? i dont want you to film anything. maybe you missed the constructive criticism part. im not doing this to undermind any of you guys or your design, just trying to help you out. i think you took these posts the wrong way, its the internet. if you took them the wrong way i am sorry, seriously. i never called you or any of your co-workers stupid and neither did i call your work.

I think everyone here is somewhat mis-understood. They were built against a few constraints, orig design, time, life etc....But I could not afford to drive another few thousand miles on my old ball joints and wheel bearings. The $1300 Nittos I just bought are about 1/2 life left on the inside tread. Ultimately, YES, this is part of a mid-travel setup ( whether these arms or used or not) I now have room to stuff a 2.5" CO or 2.5" Smoothbody shock in there. I drive the truck often, and fairly hard, but not to the extent that I believe these will break. They are still Tig'd with good penetration, and cro-mo...
Sure....buying the $700 BMS ones would have been nice....or even the camburg ones...but as of right now, that was completely out of the option. The truck is on the street 70% of the time. This was the first crack any of us have had at UCA's and quite frankly I think they came out decent. I guess time will tell right? I did gain ~2" of downward travel with decent CV angles...

Mike- Stop being Edgy...They're not perfect, I didn't expect that...you know me Function> Looks any day. I don't think I'm going to make it back for new years BTW. :hidesbehindsofa:

Tony- Thanks again, sorry for the time constraint. If we can get the #1 design to work instead of the cam bolts maybe we can crank out another set down the road. I'll (legally) buy ya a beer in 6 days. :big_banana_Dance:

KnuckledSTR - Thanks for the criticism, It came off pretty strong though, gussets and extra support are always nice, don't get me wrong but we were under a heavy time constraint. ( which was my doing) I'm sure the next ones will be a bit beefy-er, I might even re do these down the road. I'll try and get some pictures of the stock ones up, they are a joke, just stamped and rolled sheet metal, I'd still put my money on these over stock.

Now... More pictures, went on very smoothly, took it for a rigorous speed bump test earlier, seem to work awesome! Getting aligned monday. I'm currently just rattlecan'ing them black until I can get a bunch of stuff powdercoated all at once.

:shake: Like stated above... Haterz gunna' Hate.
