1983 toyota 4x4

Goin to pick a '83 long bed Toyota 4x4 next week....It has the 5-speed, 22r, strait body with no major damage for $500. The owner said it runs, but the engine overheated and is knocking. Other than that he said the 4x4 works and transmission shifts as they should. This will be my first toyota and i plan on slowly fixing it up. Re-build or junk-yard motor, cleaning it up, putting a winch and a mild lift w/ some 30"-31" tsl's will be on the to do list. It already has a winch bumper too. Is there anything i need to look out for on this little rig? I plan on keeping it for a while so im gonna slowly build it up. Any advice/suggestions will be appreciated!
