I need a tonneau cover bad! How hard/easy are they to take on and off?

the Fastback, Sprint, or Gemtop you can't go wrong with any of those.

my gaylord's X2000 is easy as hell to take off. All you need is a friend. Two screws come off, and it just lifts off.

I need one bad too! But I'd like to have one that didn't go over the bed.
I like the flush ones too. Only thing I don't like about that one is how big the weatherstripping is on the edges, it seems to stand out. Your truck is black though so maybe it wouldn't be very noticeable.
i think in the pic they show that yellow one with a matched yellow weatherstripping.
See I'd rather have something like this... this is a GemTop:

You might want to scope out Checkmate they have nice fiberglass tonneaus and they are relatively easy to take off/on all you need to do is get the quick release hinges. my buddy has one on his 96 sierra and between the 2 of us we can usually get it off and on it a couple of minutes. :mexsmoke:

While we are on the subject of tonneau covers....
I went down to my local truck accessory store in attempt to pick up a Gaylord lid. He all but refused to sell me one by claiming that the quality was very poor and that snug lids were far superior. Well, that may be, but snug lids cost bundles more. Is Gaylord really that bad, or is this guy just trying to sell me more expensive stuff.
Also, I found this lid on the internet. Anyone know the brand? The semi-spoiler/fin is beginning to grow on me...

I've never seen anyone that has had quality issues with Gaylord.. they have the best hinges of any cover around.

Well just FYI...I did a little research on the mystery tonneau cover in question. I contacted the owner and this is what he had to say about it:
The cover is a Fibernetics, or what used to be called Steel Horse cover. There is only one place I could find it, and it is StreetbeatCustoms.com. It is like $600 and $150 to ship it. Spend the extra $150, and have them paint it, so it will be $900 to your door, but the paint quility on it, is better than you would get at most body shops!
I always hate to buy stuff sight unseen...has anyone else dealt with Street Beat Customs before? Did the stuff arrive on time & un-damaged?

I have the Checkmate cover, it comes in black or white gel coat fiberglass ... it's not too bad for the money. Also put the bushwacker rails on to match it, if I get it painted those will either be painted too or pulled back off.

I used to have the checkmate soft cover but this is what happened to it after a bad thunderstorm

Checkmate took it back, and applied a full credit to the hard cover .. so I was pretty happy.

I want to get a cover too but I thought it would be an issue since I carry loads alot. But you guys are saying they're quick and easy to take off. Now the only problem is the bed liner.

I have a leer 600 series tonneu, cept instead of havin the lock and handle in the back, it's up on top of it cover. It fits over the bed, but it's fit is very snug and matches up with the body very nice. I think they retail around 550-600, but i ended up gettin mine for 300 installed cause they guy i bought it from no longer sells tonneu's at his shop and had the exact one i needed left over, so he cut me a fat deal. Of course the tonneu is dark green and my truck is indigo blue. But that will all be fine once all the body work is done and i get the whole thing repainted. But i really enjoy the quality of the leer tonneu.

This is the one I have on my truck and I love it. It will leak, if you spary it at the seams when washing your truck, but not to bad. Mine has had the lock shaved. I picked it up from a member of "the other site" for $100 :naughty: I need to get it painted to match my truck though, but all and all I like if very much. Don't have pics, wish I did because it has flames on the under side of the tonneau. And it's very easy to get off, has quick hinges, just lift up slide back and remove, very easy. Plus it has a metal top, not fiberglass.

I'm ordering a checkmate cover as soon as I get my tax refund back. It'll be mounted to where it opens sideways so that I will be able to reach in the bed and fill my fuel cell.

But i really enjoy the quality of the leer tonneu.
Leer and Quality all in one sentence.. I can't believe it...
I have the same cover factory installed and it:
1. Dented the corners of my bed
2. Scratched the bed tops
3. The latches only have one screw in them and turn when you try to lock it
4. The fiberglass is rough as can be on top and their painting is awful I've never seen so much orange peel in my life.

has anybody heard anything about the light weight UnderCover tonneaus? If they were pretty good, id rather get one of them just for the extremely light weight.
