Re: Duramax made by Isuzu?

August 14, 2002 - General Motors sells its 49% share in Isuzu but quickly turns around to buy 12% back. GM also takes full control of DMAX and Isuzu Motors Polska, with Isuzu losing not just the factories but also ownership of all engine designs.

DMAX of Moraine, Ohio is a manufacturer of Diesel engines for trucks. Originally a joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu, the formation of DMAX was announced in December of 1998. General Motors acquired full control of the venture in 2003, including all engine designs. The company's Duramax V8 has been extremely successful for GM.

Prior to the founding of the DMAX venture, the Moraine plant produced GM's 6.5 L Diesel V8. Production of that engine began in 1982.

Crank is forged and rough machined in Japan, finish machined and hardened in Moraine,OH
Heads are cast in Japan, machined in Moraine,OH
Block is cast in Germany, machined and induction hardened in Moraine,OH
Injectors are Bosch (German) but made in USA
Turbo from Japan ( Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.)
Rods are machined and split fractured in Moraine,OH

Engine is assembled and tested Moraine,OH
