if you dont have painted stuff under the hood, they suggest spraying everywhere and scrubbing most parts with simple green and then hose off, then armor all plastic... if everythings painted then some soap and water....

No problem, have fun I remember when I did my engine bay the first time... There was grime in some areas 1/2" thick Looks a lot better now, though. I had to get some work done on it right after the first time I cleaned it up, and the mechanic working on it about shit a brick when I told him it had 120k miles on it

if you hose off valve covers (this is where i have some grime) can you ruin the individual coil packs??? Don't mean to Hi Jack, but good to know.

Here's a before and after of one of my engine bay detail jobs

BEFORE:

AFTER:

When you first apply the dressing it's super-glossy as you can see. If you let it sit for 24 hours and buff it off, it leaves a nice semi-gloss finish that doesn't look so fake. Here's my engine bay after waiting 24 hours and buffing:

Here's my method:
  • Park the vehicle in the shade.
  • Cover ALL electronics & alternator with zip-loc bags and a rubber band.
  • Spray off entire engine bay with a water hose/pressure washer (stay a good 1-2 feet away if using a pressure washer)
  • Spray Simple green (diluted 20:1) liberally over entire engine bay, let sit for 2 minutes, then spray off with water.
  • For tough areas, spray more simple green and scrub with a tooth brush & rinse accordingly.
  • Dry the entire underhood area with compressed air.
  • Remove all plastic bags and clean electronics by hand with a terry cloth & WD-40 if desired.
  • Apply Superior Products Instant Shine on all surfaces.
  • Wait 24 hours and wipe off the excess.
