anyone confirm what diameter spring/ball we should be using? are you guys greasing up the yoke when throwing the ball in there as well?

well i dont have a damn clue how you guys fit a full racquetball inside that yoke, i cut it in half and kinda folded it over and we'll see how it does havent driven yet. I need to buy a new set of calipers and then I'm going to measure the ID and the extended/collapsed lengths and get a spring to fit it and machine some little rubber end plugs for it i think....IF it actually solves the issue.

the biggest clunk i notice is when shifting between forward gears and reverse, so far it seems to have muffled it but it still is there a bit. I didnt have anything but regular high temp grease in the garage so I did not grease the splines, next time though.

They have been using this slip yoke into the trans setup forever. Why do these clunk? Do you think the rear springs are too soft and causing more movement?

you would know it if you had it, I'm pretty certain. Mine was fairly bad at times. This clunk and the engine "piston-slap" ticking on cold starts were the two things I hated most about my Sierra.

But, fortunately for me the clunk went away the last time it was greased right before putting in a new BDS leaf-pack and removing my blocks and has never come back!

I'm pretty sure I have this same clunk. The weird thing is, when it rains, the clunk is more sensitive, if that makes any sense.

One of these days I will grease it up and maybe even try the bouncy ball.

That is what I'm talking about. The rear springs are too soft or wrap too much. I've thought about removing the rear blocks and put a full length add a leaf to see if that helps.

Truck drove like a fucken covered wagon, but no more squating when taking off or after a stop. Oh and the nickle plated yoke is only for the 4WD modles. We tried on and it was too big. Now with the spring or ball, wont this damage the internal parts of the output shaft in the tail end of the trans??? I think my ECSB sierra does this to, but not as bad as the one pice shafts.

So. I just started to get the clunk. A couple days before it started, I was just thinking how I need to replace my shocks. After reading the above comment, I'm real curious if this will go away if I replace my rear shocks.

I have 5k on my 08 Sierra CC. 2wd now, and the Clunk started a couple of weeks ago. It seems to be getting worse, but it is intermittent.

It happens 15-30 sec after I stop, idling at a Red light. Friday was the worse, actually felt like I was rear ended.

Does this seem to be the same problem, you guys are referring to?

is the clunk coupled with a slight vibration?

No, atleast mine isnt. The clunk is when you are driving/stopping. Not shifting from park to drive or reverse. (Atleast for me & i think most of us here)

Ok guys, i also get the clunk when im offroad flexing pretty good. It sounds real bad, alot worse than it usually does when on the road. Anyone else notice the clunk intensify when flexing? (not just a little flex. When i tuck the rear tire pretty good, the clunk is real loud)

btw, im gonna try the bouncy ball. My truck is 2wd, should i put the ball in the tranny or in the d-shaft?

Not my truck, found this pic online. Where should i place the ball? In the tranny end, (left side of pic) or the end of driveshaft?(which should be alot smaller than tranny hole)

Ok i went out to flex a little bit and take pics to show u guys and ask for opinions. I think my rear end is drifting backwards. The amount of yoke sticking out of the tranny never used to be that much. You can tell how much play it has by looking at the shiney part. What do yall think? The clunk is still bad while flexing

In a parking lot, level ground:

I also checked it out on a hill. I figured maybe putting pressure on it would change how much stuck out but it looked the same as the 2nd pic under these conditions:

The rear end pops when rolling over something at close to full flex. It doesnt constantly pop, just once. Anyone know whats causing this? Maybe axle wrap? Im not sure exactly how that happens, please explain.

Everyone's way over complicating this. The correct size ball to use are the ones in the 25 cent machines. Seen them used multiple times. There's even some shops up here around where I live that keep the bouncy ball machines in the service drive for this very reason.
