No, this isnt an open discussion.
![]() I found a brand new type S 12 on CL the other day for $50 so i picked it up. Cool. Well i had a sub par quality pioneer deck and an mtx amp, so i threw together a bargain system. Well, the only type s's id ever heard were in garretts s10 a while back, and they fucking drilled. So i was expecting some decent bass and i hooked it all up. It sounds like shit. It bottoms out on any kind of low hz, and if the gain is more than halfway, itll do it at listening volume too. Heres my Setup. Amp-MTX X-Thunder 600w Class D 1 Channel. ![]() Specs Here Subwoofer-Alpine Type S 12 Specs here Deck-Pioneer DEH 30001B ![]() Specs here The subwoofer is wired at 2 Ohms, which should be optimum for that amp. Im using 4ga ground and power wires, with an inline fuse, 16ga fosgate speaker wire. The sub is in a premade regular size 12 box firing toward the bed of the truck. On paper, this should be a decent setup right? What am i missing? BTW, when i say its not loud, i dont mean my neighbors arent calling and complaining, i mean that my shitty 12 with a jensen amp in the trunk of my chrysler was way louder than this. Where do i start? |

it may have a blown voice coil, hence it only being $50

$50 isnt just a steal, but its decent. i thought blown vc's caused distortion.. this is like a knocking or vibrating sound. Like i thought the sub wasnt bolted in the box or something.
10 points for knowing who wesley wills is. |

What kind of box is the sub mounted in? The enclosure will make a huge difference. Also, amplifier settings...

i tweaked the settings a bit, it sounds decent when i listen to rock, but it sounds like the cheap surround sound i have in my house, not what a dvc 12" sub should sound like in a reg cab. i dunno what the hell is up with it.

After looking at another MTX 600XD, I would turn all the settings/knobs/potentiometers to half way (except maybe bass boost). See if that improves the sound or not. Could you also take a picture of the enclosure?
