I have a 2003 Chevy 2500 Duramax supposedly have a G80 rear end. If i go off road in any type of sand I am stuck I live in the dessert so sand is everywhere. Rear end also hops all over the place in my opinion due to the stiff rear end everything on dash board is on floor in seconds. How do I tell if my G80 rear end is working or not always stuck and tired of letting air out to get out

if both of ur rear tires spin, it works.
but if ur in sand all day, ur mostly going to sink anyway. |

I guess both tires do dig in when stuck. Also had a freak snow storm and could not get out of drive way. Wifes Yukon backed right up and had no problems which makes me wonder what is going on. The rear end is light but yet stiff so could this be the problem? Can not afford to upgrade to a 4x4 so I am trying to make due for as long as i can.

there is no weight over the rear end of a truck...thats why a front wheel drive car will move through snow easier...or a heavier vehicle like a yukon...and if both tires are spinning in the sand, yes, it sounds like the G80 is doing its job. if your tires are narrow, you are getting less contact with the sand....the larger the surface area, the more the weight force of the vehicle can be dispersed, thus you won't "sink" as easily. sounds like you could benefit from a wider tire.
what do i know about driving in the snow? i live in sc ![]() |

Tires are the standard tires that came on the truck. Had one truck lifted and gas was sucked down. Bought diesel to pull the toys great on the road horrible when not.
I believe 245 70 16 have to check though. |

Definately need wider tires and mud grips will NOT be your friend in the sand! Stick with a street tread or all terrain at most.

Get an all terrain thats directed more toward the sand, like a Nitto Dune Grappler or the Super swamper Trxus STS...at least i think thats what its called.
