I installed a Temp/Compass mirror from a 2000 GM vehicle (got off E-Bay) into my 2001 2500HD. The factory wiring harness was alreay in the headliner and mated with the mirror perfectly, so I found the 2 wires under the fuse block under the hood and spliced in the Gentex Temp Sensor that I also got off of E-Bay. The Compass works great, but the Temperature reads -20 F and flashes an Ice warning! I am in South FLorida and it was approx 80 F today! Any ideas what could be wrong?

The company that I bought the sensor from gave me this explanation:

Our experience with the symptoms you're seeing
(assuming it's connected to the correct pins) is
that the connection is failing/weak somewhere
between the sensor and the pins in the mirror
head.

The other possibility is if maybe the sensor got
damaged a bit during install (not uncommon to hear
of some accidentally smacking it against the side
of the bumper or some other hard surface)
It's a delicate item with liquid inside and if
jarred hard enough can damage it; however, the
symptoms you're experiencing are classic symptoms
of a failed connection or loose connection.
I would double and triple check that first.
We see this quite often and pretty much every time
that we hear of either a really high reading or a
very low reading it's a connection issue

So.... What do you think?

Well....... I picked my truck up today from the body shop and the Temperature Issue seems to have resolved itself. Maybe it needed to reset itself from the installation, who knows? But thanks for the help. I am new to this forum, but y'all seem to be a great group of folks. I have been a member of the Corvette Forum for about 4 years and they are very helpfull, too. God Bless.
