I tried watching one when I did my pitman. After about 30 seconds realized there was no way it works like that on a 12 year old truck and ended up pulling the steering gearbox out. I want to see a real video with shit all over the driveway, someone cussing at thier wife, and driving the other car to the parts store 5 times with grease all over the steering wheel like in real life.
First of all if you're going to make "how to" videos, how's about being properly tooled to do the job you're doing. Here's a tip on your pitman arm removal, take a cut off wheel and cut a notch into the pitman arm almost all the way to the pitman shaft as close as you can, then take a chisel and pound it into the notch you just cut into the pitman arm till it cracks and they fall right off, auto tech 30yrs......
First, I apologize if my response offended anyone. We have owned three duallies, a 91, 92 and an 01. All have shared this common problem. We have never found OEM or replacement parts that lasted over 100 K, YMMV.
The Cognito Motorsports kit for reinforcing IFS GM truck steering components eliminates this weak spot. Very little, if anything, to wear out in the kit. Good luck!
My pitman arm is on there GOOD. I'm using a torch to heat it up while I've got the puller on there, and hitting it with penatrent. The issue I'm running into is the radiant heat is toasting that dust boat pretty bad. Anyone have any tips in how to avoid this? I don't have air tools so my next move would be to run up to harbor freight and get an electric cutoff wheel and a chisel like recommended. Please help! I've been messing with this arm for two days and already snapped one puller cranking on my ratchet with a pipe extension.
cut a notch into the pitman arm where it's on the shaft, cut the notch almost all the way to the shaft, pound a chisel into the notch you just cut and it will spread the pitman arm and it will fall right off. Or you can do it your way with the old puller tool and your torches and melt the seals in the gearbox, whatever you think is best.....auto tech 30yrs exp!
