The leds are actually whiter with no blue tint. And, a lot brighter. They have a wider beam. They seem to reach pretty far. I need to take another trip and get away from street lights.
Looking at the pattern difference, the LED (driver's side) has a more uniform output on a wall versus the PIAA which has a central hot-spot in the center-top of the pattern. This translates to the LED not having as much throw because the projector is designed around light from a central point. Just about every LED "bulb" has this issue because the LEDs are larger than the filament of a halogen bulb or the arc capsule of an HID bulb.
Try it out for yourself. Simply pull the fuse on one headlight, then the other, and find out which one allows you to see further.
I used aftermarket halo projectors from ebay. No retro fit.
