Hey y'all, posted this in the general forum but figured I might get a little more help here. Looking at a 2016 Chevy 2500HD Z71 LTZ that only has 14K miles....the truck is listed as a certified used truck at my local GM dealer, but they bought it at an auto auction. The GM dealership where the truck was traded in sent the truck to auction after only having it on their lot for 3 days. The truck is leveled with wheels and tires, but other than that it looks to be bone stock. Is this something that I should be concerned with? I think that a certified used GM vehicle comes with 12-mo/12K mile warranty along with whatever transferable factory warranty is left....just kinda sitting here wondering why someone would basically trade in a brand new truck...I'm not wanting to buy a lemon or anything. This truck has American Force wheels on it as well as Dirt Logix shocks and control arm upgrades. It is an expensive truck, no doubt...but still a little less than the new ones. I had a 2015 Powerstroke, loved it, no issues. Traded in for a 2017 Silverado 5.3 with the 8-speed....hate the transmission, its a POS. Basically, I have three options....buy lightly used 2016 duramax with wheels/tires, buy new Duramax, or buy new Powerstroke. I cant decide and need some advice, thanks in advance and sorry for the length of this....

GM Certified Pre Owned cannot have a leveling kit or any suspension modifications. Not sure what happens when you add that to a CPO unit but at the time of certification I know it cannot be there.

As far as why its at auction, some dealerships don't want the liabilities of selling anything with any sort of suspension modifications, while some others are not concerned. If it was junk or had problems as to why it was sent to auction, it would have come up during the certification process or they were corrected already.

CPO isn't all that big of a deal, goes thru a bigger checklist but still can have body panels that were painted, etc.

I don't see why a leveling kit would matter. When we bought the wife's 16ltz, we had the dealership do a 6" lift on it.

The dealership near me does sell CPO lifted Chevy/GMC trucks with a complete factory warranty(whats left of it) even after a vehicle has been lifted. They also sell A TON of lifted trucks and SUV's that are completely covered by factory warranty from day 1. You can look this up on their website.... peterscars.com or Peters Elite Autosports....top notch dealership, not sure how they get around having GM warranty their lifted trucks but they do, seen it first hand when my 2012 was in the shop under warranty work

Just going by what was told to me by a used car director at a chevy dealer here in town I work with. Lot manager mistakenly stuck GM CPO stickers and info on a used 15 Silverado that had a leveling kit and they had a customer in there looking at it while his truck was in service and he wanted to buy it and then backed out cause it wasn't certifiable which was a deal breaker for him. If there was a way for them to go around it to seal the deal, they would have. Maybe not all dealers follow the rules I guess.

The aftermarket dept of a dealer will add anything you want to it, at a hefty price of course.

Adding a lift or level kit doesnt void the 3yr/36k b2b or 5yr100 powertrain, unless they prove the part that failed was a direct result of the modification.
