    Hi

    I have a 2002 silverado 1500 z71 ext cab 160k mi

I posted in another forum but wanting to get more opinions

Front wheel hub bearings are shot. I also am replacing the control arms, tie rod, and bar links. In case, I also bought new steering knuckles.

If eveything is coming off, I was planning on removing lower control arm first then upper...and following my Haynes instructions.

But if everything is coming off....any obvious shortcuts or method to follow?

I have replaced the wheel hub bearings once before but not the control arms.

From my experience, it is much easier to disconnect the tie rod, bar links, and UCA to lower the entire hub and then pull out the strut assembly as I t is only connected to the LCA and the strut housing. This makes the removal and installation of the both control arms extremely less frustrating as fitting most sockets and wrenches in between the coil is a bitch and a half.

Overall I prefer to work from the top down when removing my suspension parts. Gravity works with me and I usually throw an old jack stand or just a good ole bucket underneath the lower ball joint to keep the hub from dropping when I remove the upper bolt. Don't forget to detach your brake fluid hose. Had the misfortune of ripping one of those once, not too fun.

Best of luck, would love to see the new parts when they're on.

I saw a guy on Facebook trying to sell a pair of brand new 4wd Timken hubs for $115 if you are interested.

In case anyone is wondering, you can remove the lower control arm with the knuckle still attached fairly easy. Dont even need to drop the torsion bar [IMG]

Theres a lot of torque loaded in that bar. But its unload rotation is very short. Not much can happen.

finished the other side today. took 2 less hours to finish and I still could not get the lower control arm ball joint to separate. everything else came off real easy

would have been faster but i screwed up by putting the cv axle in without torquing the knuckle to wheel hub bolts so i had to remove it and put it back.

drives a little leany and def in need of an alignment but otherwise drives great!
