Thought I'd start a thread about my journey to driving a truck again! I was injured back in the 90's and am now a wheelchair user full time. I've been driving from my wheelchair, an accessible full size Ford van since 05. I was happy to be independent again and take road trips with my dog and visit friends, etc. But driving a 2wd van where I live, at times I wasn't able to go everywhere I wanted to. About 5-6 years ago I noticed there was a company making a fully accessible wheelchair truck. I drove trucks before I was injured, and did a lot of off roading growing up. Being in a chair, I thought I'd be stuck driving a van forever. So seeing an accessible truck got me really excited, and gave me hope maybe some day I could be wheelin' again! After saving for a while, in 2012 I was able to purchase a black one owner 08 GMC Ex Cab z71 SLE 4wd. It has a leveling kit, and I put some 18" XD Monster wheels with 33" Nitto Trail Graps. After years of saving more, 4 weeks ago I finally shipped my truck to AT Conversions http://www.atconversions.com/ in Markle IN, from California for the conversion! This is how it looked before shipping Loaded and ready for the trip! Truck made it safely to IN 1st stage of conversion As of today 5/21 my truck is half way done, and currently in the "structural" stage where they install a 3" body lift, and do most of the cutting/welding/fabrication mods. This is what it'll look similar to when done Thanks for reading my build thread! I'll be updating as the work continues...so stay tuned!
