This is from a truck that I saw online and am interested in buying. I'm just curious as to what this button is for. I can't quite see the symbol above the button and have never seen a button like this in that location. Usually, that area is either empty and is (basically) a small storage compartment or, in a 4WD truck, it's the location for the 4WD buttons. Any ideas?? 2006 GMC Sierra Dash.jpg

    No. Not a quadrasteer.

    Almost looks like traction control.

YES! That's what it is. I guess I should've searched that on Google Images first instead of "2006 GMC Sierra dash" which gave me a similar picture to the one I posted but no explanation of the buttons. I just searched "2006 GMC Sierra traction control" and saw that button again linked to a forum and someone asking how to disable it. I got a clear picture of the symbol above the button with that pic as well. 100% sure it's traction control. Thanks, Machingeaneer!!

Weird, I always thought the traction control button was below the vent and next to the HVAC controls?

That's where the airbag switch went in some.

I don't remember seeing a traction control button on a truck. Usually you see them on an SUV

Yes, I have seen them in that location as well. But I have also seen the switchpanel above the headlight switch as well. I believe the ones that have it to the right of the AC control panel are 4x4 trucks which have that space above the headlight switch occupied by a pushbutton 4x4 switch.

Neat. I wish GM put more buttons in the space above the headlight panel rather than in the space next to the HVAC controls. Place next to the HVAC controls is fuckin great for putting my phone/ipod/whatever in that space, while the spot above the headlight switch is literally good for fucking nothing

I think he's referring to the 4wd switch area. Most 2wd trucks just have a pocket there that is useless. I havent found one thing that fits in there or that I would want over there

or 4wd trucks with the 4x4 on the floor. Or AWD trucks. I had a Yukon Denali that had the traction control button next to the HVAC controls, and then where the 4wd buttons normally are was just that empty pocket. Stupid design imo

The remote control for most aftermarket head units will fit there. But as soon as you hit the gas, they fly out like a cannonball. As mentioned before, since neither of my NBS trucks have anything other than the airbag switch next to the HVAC controls, I did the SUV pocket mod.

Mine had. On star button and air bag switch there. Still removed it but gm had so many configurations for these trucks it makes zero sense

I had the pocket above my headlight switch as well. It's absolutely fucking useless. But I now have the power fold switch for my mirrors there, since I converted to 03-06 DL3 power fold turn signal mirrors.
