Wondering what kind of performance upgrades would make my truck a bit faster? Its a dd and i dont want a full blown race truck, just want something that can give it a bit more speed and make it get off the line quicker.

Get a tune from black bear performance. They are a vendor on the forum. That will wake your truck up and still allow it to be DD'd.

AFM/DOD delete with a kit from Texas Speed or BrianTooley Racing, Stage 1 cam & 1 3/4" Speed Engineering long tube headers with off road y-pipe/cat delete and true 3" dual or single exhaust, shorter gears, then a custom on the fly or dyno tune.

Any other mods needed to support the cam? Such as tranny work or anything?

No other mods, I recently had these mods done, minus shorter gears & the factory valve springs, push rods and rockers were used. I mentioned a stage 1 cam cause the factory converter can still be used to keep the same drivability. I went with the Brian Tooley kit and his Stage 1 Comp Cam. Completely different truck now still running the original 3.73 gears.

Yes they will. I'd go with these, http://www.speed-engineering.com/sh...-1-3-4-longtube-headers-y-pipe-2007-2013.html. The build quaitly is very nice and the price is hard to beat. I'd also go with multi layer steel header gaskets, high heat spark plug boot protectors and new header bolts. You'll need new head bolts also, I'd go with ARP on those and also the OEM multi layer head gaskets. I can get the numbers off the box my cam came in later and give you the specs on it if you want.

If you don't go with the AFM/DOD delete kit, be sure to get a cam that will work with the DOD components.

This is the list I have planned for my 5.3:

Banks ram air intake (already installed)
    Long tubes with catless Y
BTR stage 2 or 3 cam or Vinci trucker (still looking at others)
TSP dod delete with arp head bolts and LS7 lifters
    Moly rods and LS6 springs
    Circle D 2600-2800 stall
    Tru Cool 40k tranny cooler
    Corvette servo
    Black bear tune

I'm building mine more for towing but it should still have a good power bump.

I put a few bolt ons that really gave my truck some extra pep.
Magnaflow cat back exhaust. Air raid intake tube and filter in the original air box. 6.2 intake manifold and throttle body. Diablo Tuner using E85. I like the tuner since it gives me the option of changing the tune or taking it off completely if needed. Next upgrade will be long tube headers and a y-pipe, and wires.
