thanks! I've got a buddy that's a whiz with trannys. I want to get it rebuilt and am wondering if you know of a company that makes good rebuild kits? I want to be able to take my truck and the rebuild kit to him and have it done over the weekend. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Why do you want it rebuilt? I've turned mine around in a weekend, but that's pushing it because getting in a hurry will only cause more problems.

Not early ones. It was an option before it became standard. 5.3s didn't get 6 speed until 2010?

Nope, I've got an '11 with the 4L60E

On second thought, it's probably because I have the 4.8. I'd rather have a 5-speed than a 6- or 4-speed anyway. My dad's Tahoe has the 6-speed. It's pretty nice, but I think 5 gears with a little more separation between their ratios would be a little better.

    That's because you have a 4.8. 6L80 is standard on the 2010 5.3.

Because it feels a little clunky and it has 110K miles on it. Plus I have the money so It's getting beefed up. Still need some ideas on a good rebuild kit.

110K miles is nothing, JSYK. If it were 250K, maybe a different story. If I were in your shoes, I'd pick up a corvette servo, Transgo HD2 shift kit and call it a day. Keep the fluid changed on a regular schedule and you'd be more than happy with it. There's really no reason to completely pull the transmission down to a bare case if there's nothing wrong with it. If you want to, that's your decision. I wouldn't argue with your builder if he puts nearly everything right back in though since even at 100K miles there won't be much wear.

If you insist on tearing it down though,
