Just got on the forum. Ive got a 2005 Silverado crewcab 1500. Id like to get a pioneer double din, gonna build some door pods and put a 6 1/2 and 5 1/4 in each front door, also want to get a couple subs for either behind the seat or under possibly. Thinking two rockford fosgate shallow 10's.

Two questions. On the wiring harness for the double din do I have to get the Axxess GMOS-01 to keep the bose setup. I could careless about the onstar. Im thinking just a pioneer avh170dvd or maybe upgrade to a bluetooth headunit.

Im also wondering about building a box for behind the seat can I get rid of those plastic fresh air vent deals? I know I can't just cover them but was wondering If anyone has removed the plastic to give a little more room for a box.

Yes I've used the search button found a couple builds but not much. Lots of great info on this forum. Ill be tuned in for the long run.

What is the logic behind the 6.5 and 5.25 in each door? Why not two 6.5's? Also, I'd recommend against the RF subs and do the Sundown SD3 10's, MUCH better option.

As for the vents, they're there for a reason. You can cover them up, but if you try shutting both doors at the same time you may find they don't close properly.

RF because price and quality. Im not looking for a huge system just some added bass. I know sundown makes vary good equipment but is a bit more spendy than what Im looking for.
Price and quality are 2 things I never see together with RF. Their subs, particularly on the lower end, are WAY over priced for what they are. Now, what you're looking at in particular can be had online for $125 a sub vs the Sundown SD3 10's on pre-order for $170 a sub. OK, so what do you get for that extra $45?

300 watts RMS vs 500 watts RMS
High Qts vs mid Qts
8mm xmax vs 15mm xmax

What that all means is the SD3's offer more output on the same power, better bottom end, better sound quality, and better power handling. So yes, the SD3's cost a little more, but what you get for that money is well worth it.

The big picture, a single SD3 10" I feel would be just as loud and sound better than a pair of those RF 10's. THAT would be cheaper. http://www.emfcaraudio.com/sundown-audio-sd-3-10-dual-2/ powered by http://www.emfcaraudio.com/sundown-audio-sae-600d/ and you're in it for $389 shipped.

im not gonna try to tell u what to buy or from who....but I wouldn't run those subs. or 6.5 and 5.25s in the doors. either dual 6.5s or single 6.5.

as far as the vents go, you can trim the air box flush with the pillar plastic and fill it with expanding foam, leaving some room for air to travel in and out of. Not much room under or behind the seats on these trucks, stock. good luck!

Just do you know i just took out some shallow fosgates and replaced with the sundown sd-2

And i would put the shallow fosgated in the midbass category, not subwoofer

bose will be a junky setup. Don't run the bose amp at all, get a 4ch or don't run anything for now. I bypassed the bose crap in my truck. If you do that, you don't even need a harness adapter...just tap into the constant/switched/ground and run RCAs to the 4ch and ur own wiring to the speakers....WAY better setup than using the blose junk.

I had been wondering about going that route. After your guys input and talking with a friend of mine who's a car audio nut I think were gonna make some door pods for the front doors and put in two 6.5s in each...run them off a 4 channel amp.

The only problem with using that stuff is 2 sets of 6.5's per door might be overpowering on the sub.

Why go with a shallow mount. In my 05 I had 3 10in Kicker comp vrs, then went to 2 12in RF P1s then 2 Diamond Audio 12in M5s which sounded great, all behind the rear seat. You can build a box that can net you a little over 2 cubes, which is enough for 2-3 10s or 2 12s sealed, or 1 ported without having to raise the seats. Your looking at around 5.25 inches of mounting depth. This should give you a start anyway for looking at subs.

you can remove the vent and boxes... but it won't give you much more room. & if you do shit behind you seats will get dirty & if you have exhaust it will be LOUDER. Trust me.

The SD3's are shallow, but not "shallow". Every other "shallow" sub sucks besides the Stereo Integrity BM. I don't know about the Diamond's you had, but the Comp VR's and RF P1's are terrible subs, so I'm guessing you just didn't know how bad you had it.

Bottom line is the SD3's are the best thing you can put under there, period.

Thanks for all the input. Gonna be building my box soon and will post pics when its done..I understand you guys recommend sundown sundown sundown. Im not looking for the best best best. For my budget and what I want the route I went will do just fine. 4 10s behind the back seat and amps under the back seat on a rack. Thanks again.

Why does everybody on this forum say that. "I don't want the best best so I don't want sundown". Sundown isn't even expensive compared to a lot of brands. And good luck fitting 4 10s behind the seat

Why all the hate for anything "NOT" Sundown, come-mon guys. For your information, I have tried and used many other brands and currently run an all Focal active settup with a 12in ultimo sub, so I think I know a little about what sound quality is. I also have been installing an have been in the business since the mid 70s so get over the punk ass kid shit, now, that that is out of the way, my comment was you don't need a shallow sub for that truck with a behind the seat enclosure. There are tones of quality subs that will fit the mounting depth and airspace requirement. I'm not saying Sundown is a bad product, its just not the "Only" product.

That's not the point I'm trying to make dude. The point I'm trying to make is that most people here say the same thing. They don't want"thebest". Well again people think sundown is expensive as hell and it's actually not.

I'm not ragging on you for not using sundown.
