Hello All,

Came across this site while looking for performance upgrades and since I got those out of the way. I would like your assistance on upgrading my speakers. My current system as below:

06 Avalanche (Bose, No Nav)

Rockford 10" Shallow Mount in sealed enclosure
Rockford P500 1bd amp
Pioneer AVH X4500BT HU

I really do not want anything grand (as you can see based on my current setup) but my factory bose speakers are on their way out (1 blown and the rears play really low)

I already have my speaker and amp selection done
Polk Audio DXi6501 Components (Front Doors)
Polk Audio db651s (Rear Doors)
Alpine MRV-F300 4 channel amp

I have a few questions I would like to know:

1)Does the factory bose amp push more power than my Pioneer HU? What is the rating on the factory amp??

2)If i power the new door speakers, what purpose does the factory amp serve other than powering the factory sub?

3)As my system stands right now, should I just run speaker wires directly from HU to door speakers and just leave the factory amp for the factory 6" sub?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Keagan:)

1 probably
2 nothing
3 that's how I deal with most chevy trucks with bose. I leave all the bose wiring tucked in the door and run my own wire. you will find it easier to grab the rear speaker wires in the b pillar instead of trying to go through the boot.
just a heads up.. prepare yourself for the " that Rockford and polk stuff is crap.... buy sundown" comments.. they are coming!

Thanks man, what are the advantages of running speaker wires directly from the HU to speaker vs through the amplified harness? As for sundown, I currently don't have sundown money, so I gotta go with what I can afford at the moment.

It's really only an advantage if you are going to add an amplifier to run your door speakers. If your not going that route just keep the Bose amp and sub intact and replace the door speakers. I believe the factory Bose speakers at 2ohm so if you can find after market 2 ohm speakers Those would work best. I think jbl makes some infinity mad Polk might also.

I was also looking at JL and JBL, I'm not against changing speakers but within the same budget of the Polks and Alpine's. I guess I will leave it the way it is wired up for now. Once I get the speakers and amp then I'll just leave the factory amp to do its 6" sub duties. Anyone removed the factory amp and placed an aftermarket slim amp? Like the new JL's?

There are Sundown offerings as cheap and cheaper than Rockford offerings.

I didnt know sundown came out with a v2 comp for that much more.. dannggg
v1 was only $200...... and theyre kick ass.. would assume the sundown coax are just as good as well as the emf swags
2 sets of those would run you the same as your 2 sets of polk
personally, i'd rather have the same pair of speakers front and back than one lacking

What would be your equivalent to the polks I have selected within that price range? Front and back.
I currently don't have anything comparable in stock. I have no component sets and in coaxials you'd be in our SWAG line which is a very different animal.

They haven't come out with he v2 component set yet, they are in production. Yes, the SA v2 components cost more, however, you get more. To get into the same price point as the old SA components, you'd be in the SD components which are also in the works. The SD components are basically the old SA components with a slightly different crossover and slightly different tweeter housing. The Sundown coax's are also not available just yet. Basically the only full range speakers I have available are Neopro's and SWAG's (which should be here in 1-2 weeks).
