how about between LS and LT? Which is better? And probably the better question, is there a code somewhere that I can walk up and read that would tell me it's a 1500 LS?

LT is is the best. We have tha package and it is equipped with leather, onstar, power buckets, ect., but LS is very nice and has a lot of nice features.

Run the vin and you'll decode what the truck is.

A 1500 is a 1/2 ton truck, a 2500 is a 3/4 ton truck...as noted the main difference is drivetrain and chassis. LS, LT, etc are all interior packages...aka leather, heated seats, cloth, buckets, bench, etc, etc, etc...

Does it have cloth or leather? Leather is standard in the LT, and an option in the LS. So that could rule some things out right now. Plus, take a look at how many lug nuts you have. 6=1500 8=2500

their are many differences between 1500, 1500HD/2500LD, and 2500HD. the suburbans only come with the 1500 or 2500LD frame. the 2500HDs have 2" thicker of a frame in order to clear the allison tranny.
