I have a 2001 Silverado 2wd regular cab. I needed to get door repainted. They used paint code in glove box U 633H. They paint is not same color as truck. It looks more red than orange. My question is did they use different versions of the sunset orange metallic paint for different years and named it the same??? If so how do you get the right color? Thanks for any help with this.

Paint is always a little different. Also, your truck is 22 years old and likely faded. Did they paint the door off the truck? Usually you’d want it painted on the truck so they can match and blend.

I understand that it is 22 years old and would expect the slight color variation. But this is just off. The door was painted off truck. But even so. It would match even if blended. That’s why I was wondering if anyone knows if there are variations in that paint code from year to year. I saw post some one said 2000 is more red then the 2001 and 2001 is more orange in color. That’s the difference I see in the tones on my truck.

The formulations are the same across the years, but there are always variations due to various reasons - the batch, the temperature, etc. a good painter should be able to do a sprayout to match and adjust to the truck, and then blend it out to adjacent panels.

Yes they would. Just thought it would have been closer by the paint code itself. That’s why I was wondering about if anyone knew about different variations of the color. Or if anyone knows the actual breakdown of the colors that go into making sunset orange metallic 633h

I did not know that. Interesting. But if they call it all by same paint code, how would you know how to mix that color from whatever plant it came from?
They need to check the different color variants. All colors a few different tones based on what factory it’s from..

[/QUOTEI had the same problem with my 01 sierra with a small repair. The body shop told me that GM had a consistency problem with that color. Mine is garage kept with low miles so fading was not an issue.
