Today I did here it for a second and then it was quiet. has anyone had a compressor go bad? I just put one on my 2007 impala a month ago I hope not this one too.

it could be that your Freon R134 is freezing and slushing up causing the compressor to sort of skip along almost to the point of locking up. I'd have some gages put on it to make sure it is not low. Check the orfice tube. I know on the early 03 this was a big problem remedied by replacing the compressor.
