Need constructive opinion(s). Im going to purchase a 2010 silverado 1500 crew cab ltz. From what I understand the 4 speed will be available up to 4.10 and the 6 speed up to 3.42. Which would be better in terms of performance? (gas mileage/towing aside). Thanks!!!

But the 4.10 has more torque for getting off the line? Or will the sixer pass it up on the long run? (past 1/4 mile) Sorry just want to do my research before I spend the $$$. Thanks again!!!

6 speeds with the 3.42 for sure ! u will have 2 more speed that will cover the torque off the line as 4 speed 4.10. and in the highway it will be smooth as 4 speeds with a 3.7.

Overall the 6-speed is way better ;)

Yeah you can't just look at the rear end ratio, you have to consider the entire drive ratio. The first gear on the 6l80e is crazy low compared to the 4l60e.

The 1st gear ratio of the six speed with the 3.42 is pretty much equilvant to the 4.10 plus the 6l80 is a whole lot stronger!!

:word:

3.42:1 in a 6L80e is like a 4.30:1 in a 4L60e

I have an 09 with a 6spd and 3.42s with the same size motor that my 00 was with the 4spd. Granted it didn't have 4.10's, generally the more gears you have the better ratios you have anywhere on the powerband.

The 6spd truck kicks the shit out of my old truck!
