Have a 02 2500HD 4x4 and i ran the case out of fluid. Thing is making some greasy noises I only drove it 5 miles after it started making noises. Pulled it out seems to have some plastic peices in the bottom of it.

Now what other vehicles are these in? Got a price of $900 with my core for a rebuilt one. Whats a junkyard one worth? this case has the pump rub issue should i do the fix before sticking a new one in? Anything beefier i can stick in this thing?

Pump rub failure?
Sounds like it.

Check the internals, it may be ok just to swap the back half off a 241, 149, 261, 263, or you may need a whole case. Either way, do the pump rub fix while it's out.

It was used in 1/2 tons with manual transfer case, 2500HDs, 3500s, maybe some dodges, although I think the heavier dodges got the 271 instead.

261 is GM only to the best of my knowledge.

02+ manual shift 1/2 tons are 241s.

03+ manual shift 3/4-1 tons are 271s.

94-01 1/2 tons used 231s.

94-02 3/4-1 tons used 241/HDs.

Speaking dodge years there right? I was thinking the newer 3/4+ were 271, but wasn't sure about the older 3/4+ , hence the maybe

doesn't appear to have the pump rub issue. I dunno may have been a long small leak. I checked it a few weeks ago and oil dripped out and i figured it was full. My buddy has a 261 non HD case. Will this fit in my truck? I do truck pull it and what not so i would want it to be as strong as this one. Think this one is rebuildable or is every bearing goin to be melted onto the shafts? So if i get a 1/2ton 4l60 manual shift 261 it will fit my 4l80?

called a ton of different spots on a used one. Best i can get is 900 with my core for a fully rebuilt one. Cant find a used one, what do you guys think? Thought it would be easier to find one of these.

Do the pump rub plate on any case you put back in there.

The 241 backhalf is different (3 part, not single casting) than the 149/261/263.

The 261 came in alot of 99-07 half tons and 00-07 HD's. You do specifically need one form behind a 4l80e (32 spline input) or to swap out the input shaft with the one you have. 80e's only came behind 6.0L's in trucks.

Not sure if it works in Canada, but car-part.com is very useful.

1/2t autos are 27 spline
1/2t sticks are 32 spline
all 6l are 32 spline,auto or stick
8.1 and dmax are 29 spline auto or stick
what about getting a np 241 from a 88-98,should bolt right up

VSS sensor is wired different. He'll have to cut and splice the pigtail from the donor onto his harness and figure out a front driveshaft solution (the GMT400 shaft may work, but I don't know the lengths we're talking about) as the 26x/246 is a slip yoke front shaft.

got the case in half seems everything is looking good. small amount of pump rub. found a local guy who said he will rebuild it. It looks so good in there i am worrying about it being the tranny. it would rev to about 1200 and jump into gear almost like the chain is slipping and catching. It wouldnt slip but jump into gear. Still spin the tires and shifted fine through all gears. There was some metal on metal noise. fluid smells good and is full. Seemed reverse to first it would make it skip.

In the t case in the bottom there is flat pieces of black platic maybe a 1/8th in thick. Seemed to look like they were making a circle. other than that it looks clean no melting of bearings everything seems to spin fine. I hope its just the t case and not the tranny but with 335,000km (200,000M) it really could be either.

Just swap out the input gear from your broken transfer case and it'll fit your 4L80e

The Chain is only used to transmit torque to the front output.

k took it to my tranny guy he said everything looked fine and nothing would be making noise. He is freshening everything up and said the rear carrier on my 4l80e is broke. Told me to drop the pan and inspect it for parts. Took off the pan and found this.

Keep in mind truck has 335,000km on it owned it since 220,000 and never touched the tranny. Been on minimum 33s and gets truck pulled heavily in the summer. Think its fucked?
