Im getting ready to fix my 87 GMC, more than likely to sell it, but Ill probably play with it some first.

It needs a new engine so the question is 350 or 454? Its got a trans build to handle either one. The 350 is $800 and the 454 is $1000. This is what Im looking at just because I dont plan on keeping it long. http://www.fivestarengines.com/replacement_engines.htm

Either way I go Id like to put the biggest cam I can in it without any other major mods. Springs or whatever would be fine. The truck is setup for TBI so I could always get a good intake and run the TBI or go carbed. Anyone got an idea of what those 2 engines would be putting out stock? 350 V8 4 bolt 86-95 and 454 V8 2 bolt 70-86

Dollar for dollar power wise I guess I would be better off getting the 454 but Im just dont know what I want to do. Any recomendations for the biggest/best cam for the 454 and about what kind of power it should put down?

Do you have a 454 and a 350 core? Those prices require a core exchange.

But going for dollar for dollar mods I guess the big block would be better. I dont want to get to crazy with the cost. A 454 might also help the sale, but with todays gas prices I dont know.

small block :imo

the price for parts for small blocks now are ridiculously cheap

if you go 454 your going to have to build it up for it to make a ridiculous amount of power. The only stock 454s that made good power were the 70-74. Other then that they are kind of dogs above 3000 rpms.

I say a small block also. I have to say tho if you want to come to Tulsa I know where you can get a 454 that's been fully rebuilt and bored over with 502 heads and tranny for probably pretty cheap.
