Hey guys I’m looking at replacing my transmission in my 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. I found a fairly new GM crate transmission 4L60E out of a 2004 GMC Suburban Z71 local to me. Would I be able to make that trans work in my 97’ or is there too much difference in the newer 4L60E’s? Thanks!

97 rides the line, post pictures of the case.

Still the 350 used a different pump and input shaft. Both need to be changed. Around $400-500.

Just get your 4l60e rebuild, any trans builder worth a cent is never putting them old 1997 parts back in. They charge $800-$1200 here for a full rebuilt. $1200 is full sonnax, 4l65e conversion and warranty.

The truck has 370k miles and the transmission has already been rebuilt twice. So this would be the third time. In central AL, it’s about $1600 for a good rebuild. I just found a deal on one and was curious what would he needed to make it work. Thanks!
