So I'm looking to build a 5.3 to replace my current one. I have a 2000 NBS and all I'm lookin to do is to break the 300hp mark. I have a CAI and will be doing a black bear tune soon for my current motor. The truck has a 7" lift with 35s and 4.56s in the rear. I was told the 06 5.3L had differnt heads and cam an was wondering if I should use that as a base for my rebuild? I'm looking to buy a motor on the side so I can still drive my truck while I build a replacement

I'm not looking to go crazy cause I've been there and done that so I'm just looking to get about the same gas milage and reliablity out of the rebuild just want to break 300hp if possible

6.0 would be better if it's in your budget, but to answer your question, yes, around 05-06 they started putting better heads on some 5.3s. Look for casting number 243 or 799 on the heads; those are the ones you want.

Whats the purpose of the rebuild? Lots of miles or you just want more power?

It's mainly for the milage purpose. Plus I figured a take out 5.3L is about 500-600 complete so it's not too bad of a starting point. Than I figured I would atleast like to get about 300HP out of it.

I did SDPC 5.3 CNC Heads, a SDPC HT1 (214/218 .559/.562 111 LSA), and Pacesetter LTs in mine, and it did 292rw/290tq with 31" tall tires, fan clutch, and . Should be easy 300+ with e-fans and an UD Pulley.
