Looked around for it... didnt see it, so here it is.
1997 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 ECSB 1500
5.7L Vortec.
Parts needed for silencer delete:
flat head screwdriver.
socket set.
2" Fernco or equivalent rubber pvc plug with wormgear.
As you OBS owners know, there is a big box behind the throttle body with the words 'VORTEC' popping up off the top, right? Right. Well it is said that all this little box does is silence the air coming into the throttle body. Removing this is said to improve gas mileage.
Well you get yourself a flat head screwdriver, and unscrew that wormgear holding on that silly box onto your tb lid. search around a little bit and grab the correct socket to unbolt the box from the top of the intake.
Then you need to grab your rubber cap. i used a plastic cap initially. don't do it. the thing came off during the test drive and there was no power whatso ever when i went to jump on it. so use the rubber cap. do it. you must.
it will look like this, but with a rubber end instead of a plastic end:
This is basically for a cleaner look, and making the incoming air louder.
