'72 will have a Dana 30 up front unless it has the XLC package which gives it a D44. That 727 is durable as fuck, just slap a cooler on it and get on with life. I am pretty sure it should have a Dana 20 case too. I wish it had a 345, but as with all IH SV motors, it will pretty much run forever as long as you keep oil in it...
Deep skirt block, no timing chain (just gears), etc. Seems to me it was about 125hp/210tq? But that TQ is flat from basically off idle to near redline. Oh, the pushrods are weak as fuck... so do NOT overrev. You want an CD ign box on there to help prevent that.
Also they really like a high ZDDP oil, so do some research. Use a 15/40 Diesel or 15/50 Mobil 1.
