Hey guys, my old man is looking for a different beater truck with manual transmission and I found a '92 6 lug 2500 5 speed.
What trans does this truck have, NV3500 or NV4500?

Is there a good source of pictures of both transmissions? I'd like to have a visual so I can confirm what it has.
It is a beat pieced together mess, but the frame looks very solid and Dad's old truck has great pieces to swap on.

But because it is pieced together, I need to know if it is a true 2500 or just a 1500 with swapped in SF 14bolt. (if it is a 1500 it definitely has a NV3500, unless someone swapped that too.....)

does it still have the sticker inside the door jamb? if not im sure you could run a carfax on the vin and find out that way. more than likely its just an old light duty 2500, explaining the 6 lugs and 14SF. i would be willing to bet it has the 4500

nv4500 has a removable bellhousing and the tranny is cast iron
nv3500 the bellhousing is part of the tranny and is all aluminum
and you could get both in the 1500 and 2500 when they 1st came out

I stopped back last night and it does have the NV4500! But it is sold..... Damn.
I stopped and took pictures this morning. I took one of the codes, hopefully it is readable. I did notice the gear code was GU6, 3.42's...yuck. I assumed it would be 4.10's or at least 3.73's. How different are the trans ratios between the 700r4 and NV4500?

It is very used, but very cool! Would have made a great beater truck for my Dad, he only uses the truck about 1000 miles a year.
It has 280,000 miles on the odo! Silicon on the gasket surfaces of the NV4500 looks like it was apart at one time.
Must have been a southern truck from the lack of rust.

Oh well, the search continues!
