Simple question.

97 Suburban 1500, I tested the 4x4 before I bought it and it worked. However last night it started snowing while I was out at dinner and when I tried to use it on the way home it wouldn't engage. I press the button and I hear a relay clicking inside the dash, the light blinks for a few seconds, then it just goes back to 2HI. Same for 4HI or 4LO. I checked both the TCASE and 4WD fuses and neither is blown.

I've done a little research and it seems that the actuator on the front axle is the problem? Can someone confirm that this is what I need to replace before I go spend money on parts I don't need? The whole reason I bought this truck was to have something with 4x4 to drive in winter.

That part is $130 from AutoZone.

Thanks

I think the original actuator up front was thermal driven and had issues in cold weather. There should be an electrical upgrade unit to fix it.

Something like this
