Anyone know where I can find a video or a thread that explains how to align an 04 Chevy 1/2 ton? I have a 6 inch rough country lift and my local shops suck. Last guy cranked my keys way the fck up so the truck rides like shit now. I wanna crank em down a little but I'm not paying another $100 to bring it back to him and have him screw with it....is this something I can do by myself with some basic hand tools?
Thanks in advance

you should definitely take it somewhere with a proper alignment rack. alignments by hand are 99.9999% complete shit and you will be chewing through tires.

spend the extra cash for a good alignment.

Also if this is a dumb question I apologize but with my tbars cranked nearly all the way up will that cause my truck to have super sloppy steering or is that mostly just due to my larger tires I am running?

well that explains a lot.

when your torsion bars are maxed out, your suspension is set at angles it wasn't designed to be at during normal driving. if your steering is anything like mine, its a LONG road to getting tight steering again.

if you want to run cranked torsion bars and have good steering, prepare to shell out the $.

make sure your inner/outer tie rods are in good shape. if not, replace them (moog or ffr fab heim tie rods. overkill for the most part though)
check pitman/idler arms. replace if needed (moog brand)
check upper/lower balljoints. replace if needed (moog brand. if your replacing the upper control arms with cognito no need to replace factory style upper balljoints)
if alignment is still not good:
get cognito upper control arms
get cognito pitman/idler arm support kit. if still not good
get cognito idler arm assembly/weld in gusset. if still not good
replace steering gear with one from red head steering gears. if still not good
replace power steering pump and make sure to add an inline filter. royal purple makes good power steering fluid. agr performance makes "high performance" pumps but i haven't been able to determine if they're really worth more than the factory ac delco pumps.
also check your sway bar and sway bar link bushings. i replaced my sway bar with one from hellwig and all bushings are new polyurethane.

after all that, you might have decent steering. good luck.

Haha holy shit, thanks. Well I just replaced my pit/idler arm and inner/outer tie rods with moog parts. So I guess my next step would be to de-crank and get a good alignment. Hopefully that'll help somewhat. If not, I'm on to ball joints and then cognito! Thanks again man.

if you're going to de-crank, the upper control arms aren't going to make as much of a difference. the cognito arms just put a better angle on the upper control arms and are adjusted for easier alignment on cranked suspensions.

i would look at the pitman and idler arm supports if your still having problems. the main issue is that the connecting rod can move back and forth while driving which makes the steering feel sloppy. the supports prevent that from happening. also the idler arm assembly where its bolts to the frame has play in it sometimes which is what the cognito assembly and weld in gusset support and prevent.

good luck! lol
