Alpine 9835 display problem

816 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  race2c
out of the blue, the display on my 3 year old 9835 failed, can't read anything on it.

not too terribly pissed because I never liked the fucking thing in the first place, no functional clock, internal amp sucks, terrible menu navigation, X-over and EQ requires a PHD to use.

care to reccomend a better replacement that will still work with my SIR-ALP1 tuner?

The newer Alpine's from last year or this year are a lot easier and don't have the EQ BS. 9856 and 9857 from last year, or 9983 from this year are good head units that will work with that tuner you have.
Hovis-I have a CDA-9857 and have had it since new, and I havent had any problems with it. My first Alpine H/U and wont be my last.
I bought a CDA-9857 brand new as well, and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I bought it about 7 months ago, and still have had no problem. just my .02
thanks for the ideas, the next day the headunit worked fine, it's never done this before and hasn't since. maybe I'll unload it on Ebay and replace it with one easier to use.
I have heard some of the newer alpines are easier to use when using with an ipod. I havent used any of the newer h/u but the 9857 can be a bitch when browsing through your library. I dont know if you have one Ryan, but thats just a word of advice from me.
Maybe a day late, but have you tried the "blackout" feature? I'm pretty sure that most of those biolite decks had a feature to turn off the display when you wanted it to be off. You'll know because the buttons will all still be illuminated, but the main display won't be.

Just a thought.
:word: I thought my old 9855 was broke when it was in blackout... but just hold down the Func button and it was back.

I have never owned anything other than an Alpine HU(6 to date) and dont plan to ever own anything else.

yeah I'm the same way, not knocking Alpine, they're about the only car audio brand I trust. my 7894 worked like a top for 4 years. that one had a much better internal amp than my 9835 now that I think about it.

nope, the display was all fucked up. hasn't done it since, hopefully it was a one time deal.

I'm behind on technology... you kids and your Ipods.

Seriously tho, I considered a hard drive only unit, weighing whether it is worth not being able to play CDs. I've used MP3 CDs for years but they're damn near obsolete.
Its all a matter of what features are more important than others.

I know alpine has a new h/u built specifically for ipods. I believe the h/u is ida-x001, the h/u has no built in c/d player and supposedly made for ipods.
