when it comes to a vehicle, do not buy something you can't physically see or drive:imo

"Almost all* CarMax used cars are transferable. In fact, we transferred more than 120,000 cars last year alone. It's an easy and convenient way to get the car you want from any CarMax location nationwide.

Once you've found the car you want, transferring it is easy. Just contact a Sales Consultant at the location closest to you, either by calling your local CarMax or submitting a Transfer Request form. Your Sales Consultant will answer any questions you have and help you start the transfer process. Transfer times vary, and a fee may apply, depending on the distance the car needs to travel to get to you. Your Sales Consultant will give you all the details.

Thanks, I read that about 5 minutes before I posted this thread, I was asking if anyone had any "personal experience"

Eh, I've bought plenty of vehicles sight unseen, one of them, my HD. But yeah, when I actually picked up the vehicle, I'd drive it before handing over the $$. It just sucks since all the ones around here are gold or LS's :nono:

Well, fuck Carmax :imo

Emailed about transferring and asked for an out the door price breakdown since I was already financed (simple right?) and homey says he can't do that until they run a credit app on me :wtf: They won't get my business....

Besides, service history showed it was pretty much a lemon :nono:

Not personal experience, but a friend of mine bought an accord from the carmax off of Palm about a month ago. He had been pricing the exact model he bought for about 6 months, and they beat the price he anticipated paying. I hear they have a no-haggle policy, but my buddy didn't challenge the price.

Seems to me they wouldnt give you a price if you werent there, that is common among dealerships, but as for the credit app, that shouldnt matter. just tell them your paying cash and dont want to run a credit app. they dont need to know the difference.

be very careful with CarMax and Auto-Nation vehicles......they are only legally bound by what carfax states when it comes to their guarantees on non-wrecked or lemon vehicles. I've know a few instances when shopping for a truck where their vehicles have has cosmetic and accident repairs but were certified by carfax....seriously. Had a friend buy a Mazda Millenia from carmax only to find out the car had extensive paint/body work upon my careful inspection.....surprise! no carfax report!

I've never really understood how carfax remains accurate. I mean, who's reporting all this shit? Bodyshops, dmv, insurance co's, who???

The same holds true for buying from any dealership. A clean carfax is no guarantee that the vehicle is OK.
