I changed because I get it for free.

But now that I did .. I would pay for it. I really like it.
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

i have used it since i got my truck and i dont know about the mpg he got but i can tell you that synthetic doesnt have the build up of organic and you can go farther between oil changes and since i got my truck new i like the idea that i hav had that protection since first oil change and they say it makes more horsepower also so thats abou it

Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

a 2mpg gain from switching to synthetic is highly unlikely. your oil would have to have been really dirty to see even half that.

i use mobil one myself because it's frequently on sale at wallyworld. i have not noticed any mileage gains in any of the vehicles i run it in, but it comes out clean everytime and allows me to run long drain intervals.
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

everything mobil one
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

my truck has 15k on it...would it be ok to switch to syn? and will it void any of my warranty? and i dont just mean engine oil either, im talkin about the diffs too..or is that a bad idea?
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

I think the NBS trucks have synthetic in the rear diff already, but not the front
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

mobil one :read:
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

I run it in 2/3 of my rides...the Ford marks it territory due to the rear main leaking. :D

Anyway... you can push M1 for a long time. I ran it to 20K in my Z71 (changing filter and adding a qt every 5K) and the motor runs as strong as can be.

DO NOT waste it by changing the M1 at 3-4K mi, it simply lasts far longer than that.
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

Also if you're going to run oil for a long time...make sure that you use a damn good filter (NOT fram), because even if the oil is still good, it picks up dirt.
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

I use the cheap ass filters from Pimp Boyz as they are reboxed Purolaters... FYI

synthetic oil won't void your warranty. and as fas at the rear diff, it probably already has synthetic in it. just check the manual to see what it has.

hastings and baldwin are two excellent filters.

well, can i change to syn right now? i have 15k miles...ive heard stories that once you;'ve used regular for a certain time u cant use syn, then ive heard other words...cuz if i can switch and its better for my engine then im gonna do it
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

More freeway driving is better for oil, it goes bad when it gets contaminated as moisture and such get into it.

I went to Syn @ 5K on my WRX, runs great w/o any oil loss.
Re: Anyone use Syntec oil

ive used valvoline synpower on my last 2 trucks. its a newer formula than the mobil one. i think im gonna make the switch to mobil one on this ride though. i thought this thread was gonna be about castrol syntec, i wouldnt put castrol in my lawnmower!:read:

if you make the bottles for mobil one and we all use it, then we're keepin' it in the family! it's a random phrase i made up on the spot that apparently doesn't make much sense without an explanation.

i check mine every week or two and if i see it's getting a little dirty i change it. i usually run 7500 mile drain intervals with mobil one 5w30.
