New to this forum, already learned a lot about these trucks from you all, so thanks for that. Recently bought a 2006 1/2 ton ccsb. My first GM truck. It's optioned out with the LT3 package. Have plans for it, so I'll start a build thread eventually.
My rear glass is split window with manual slider. It has no defrost. My question: 1. Why does GM put a split window in a cc without a auto open/close switch? 2. I think I'd like to swap it for a solid window with defrost, will the power already be there, or will I need to wire it myself? Ideally, it would be wired to my side mirror defrost button.
Any help would be appreciated, hopefully someone has done this before, and I'm not a complete lunatic for thinking rear defrost is handy. Thanks.

You're welcome. Personally though, I'd just keep the rear slider. Its a perfectly vertical window so you really only get minimal frost build up and no snow or ice build up. With the heat on in your truck for a little while the frost should just melt away. I also have a regular cab so its easier for the heat to reach the back window.

I gotcha. My reasoning is more to prevent fogging on cold days when the kids are in the back without having to blast the heat. Plus, to me the rear slider is useless if I have to pull over to open/close it. Just inconvenient I suppose.

Would rather have the rear defrost. That back window takes forever to clear up without it. Reg cabs don't have the issue since the vents actually can get air to the back window.

I have had rear defrost on my last two trucks. It's one of the options I make sure the truck has before I buy it... It's a must for me.

Just have the kids blow on the window. Keeps them busy and your windows clear.

Is it a factory sliding rear window? I didn't think GM made them for the 99-06 trucks, perhaps it's after market cuz your rear window had already been blown out by previous owner?

I don't think automated open/close sliding rear windows were an option for any trucks in 06

I guess I'm not sure if it's factory or not...never occurred to me. I'll investigate a little further and find out. Don't suppose any of the RPO codes specify?
And as far as price, who knows? You guys definitely have me curious about this now. I'll see what I can dig up and report back. Thanks a bunch guys.

So I just looked at about 100 '06s on cars.com
It seems the split window was an option. Definitely not prominent, but about 10% of the trucks I looked at had them also. Couldn't tell whether they had defrost or not, I'm guessing not. So I guess my only option is to swap glass for a solid window with defrost. It's not going to be high on my priority list, but I'll put it on there anyway.
While looking at the trucks, it also reinforced the thought that I got a pretty good deal on mine. Optioned out crew 4x4 (minus sunroof) with 113k for $13,500. It also has 4.10 rear with the limited slip. She'll spin the tires...
