2001 Suburban 2WD
108,000 miles
Lifted and put on 35's with 18x10's in 2008 @ 88,000 miles

Lately I've been hearing what sounds like the wear indicators on the brake pads. I hear it slightly while driving straight, but more while making turns. I put the Suburban on jack stands this weekend, removed the wheels and inspected the brakes and found plenty of thickness on all the pads. So that makes me think it may be the bearings.

There is no play in the hubs at all, they just make a clicking sound when being rotated. More so on the drivers side than the passenger. They also turn pretty smoothly. Here's a couple videos I took. The clicking isn't so loud in person, I guess my phone picked it up pretty well.

What to you guys think?

Typically you would hear a light roar (I know, real descriptive ) when the truck is going down the road. But, with those tires, tire noise might drown that out. If the passenger side didn't do it (& you've checked to make sure some sliver of metal isn't tapping against part of the hub), then a new bearing assembly would be a safe decision. Hell, you might even decide to do both front bearings, just so you know when the service was done on them.

Nothing seems to be rubbing to make the sound. I guess that ticking sound could sound like a metal on metal scratching sound at higher speeds. Well at least faster than I can spin the wheel by hand.

Hubs are ordered. Doing both sides. $114.22 each with Amazon Prime.

A set of Timkins are on the way from Amazon. Due to be delivered Monday. I removed the old ones this afternoon. I don't think it even took five minutes to get them both off. Removed the three bolts and they pretty much fell right off. Installation should be just as easy.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

They were just delivered to me here at work. Its a night and day difference spinning the new hubs in my hands compared to the ones I removed from the Suburban. Looking forward to getting it back together and on the road. I dont drive it much, but I dont like it sitting on jackstands on the side of the house. I should drive it more ofter. It actually gets better mpg than my 2011 Camaro 2SS.

if the new hubs don't come with new ABS wires, make sure you clean the ABS sensor REAL good. If the bearing was going out, the sensor probe might be covered in metal shavings...disregard if it comes with new...just bolt up n plug in.
