Bed Lighting (and alarm question)

732 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  DyslexicGMC
I want to put some sort of lights under the bed rails on my 04 Silverado SB. I have a tonneau cover so they wont exactly get wet, and I want to use the cover to put some sort of a switch on it...
So the question is, what kind of switch should I put on the cover (Gaylords X2000) so that I can use it to both turn the lights on and set off the alarms trunk sensor. Also what kind of lights can/should I use. Has to be somewhat low power draw, heat probably wont matter too much. I was thinking of maybe putting red lights in there (seems ricey to me, but would be better for not screwing up night vision at night the way that white lights do).

you can get switches at electronics part places that act like contacts so that when the bed cover is open the circuit would be and the light would come on, and when it is closed it turns the light off..

wiring an alarm into it would almost be impossible, you could just get a tonneau cover sensor for your alarm.

Wouldnt it work just like a hood pin sensor? Only that sensor relies on the hood being grounded (and being metal) so it wouldnt work on the fiberglass application. But in that it has a sensor of some sort that detects when its open and tells the alarm (the alarm comes with a sensor for the trunk and hood).
for lights you should probably use some LEDs....extremely low power consumtion...they are small and dont get hot...
the tonneau covers are more like pressure sensors on doors, then the tonneau is closed it pushes the pin in and when it opens the pin springs out and sets the alarm off
Hey, I thought I would ding in, I saw this awsome set-up at the car wash, this guy had Led's with tube's under the rails same color as the truck (Blue) with carpeted bed I saw him later that night it look very cool
I had a Gaylords Cover on my truck and I used Three three foot Neon Tubes in the bed .... two under the rail and one on the rail up by the cab .... I can leave them one for days and I have by mistake and no problem with my battery ....
I just use a micro toggle .... that is drilled throught my bed rug and into my stake pocket ....
hope this helps .........
