What about Doug Thorley? I dont know much about headers but I have had more than 1 person tell me about Thorley headers. Can anyone give some info on them and why they would be better/worse than others?

TOG's are awesome. I hear the coatings on the ASM's is kind of lacking. I myself am going to buy some Thorley Tri-Y's. Everybody on LS1Tech seems to really like them! Dynatech makes a good product too. Just dont waste your money on shorties, you will regret it.

hmm...i noticed more valuetrain type noise with the coated TOGs i have, but not a huge change in sound... maybe the ASMs are different? the corsa catback changed the sound of the truck completely. ive very happy with my TOGs/corsa catback combo.

so how much real world gain could I see with a set of ASMs? Would it be a noticable difference?
Big time difference! Especially with LT's. Id say maybe a 25HP gain. From low end to top end you will feel a difference. You will hear some ticking with the headers. The primaries are thin and valvetrain noise can be heard due to that. Its normal though.

ha i wont hear shit over my 42" TSLs screaming down the road.
My 42's are way quieter than my 39's...

Remember, no long tube header is going to work, you are going to have a big old shackle hanger in the way, your going to need a shorty and use a stock style crossover pipe. Took me 6 hours to route my exhaust around my pass. side shackle hanger.

Hmm since our frames are different I think longtubes may work for me, just dont know for sure. I was thinking I might mount the shackle hangers on a crossmember bolted to the bottom of the frame. I dont know yet. Do you have pics of your shackle hangers? Its pretty much impossible to design it until the IFS is off, I cant even take accurate measurements with the damn control arms and shit in the way.

The shackle hangers mount inside of the frame rails and the bottom of the spring eye sits about level with the bottom of the frame. If you build them on a crossmember below the frame they are going to look fugly and hit everything you try to go over...

I like that design alot Except on the NBS the frame curves inward alot there and I dont have the skills to fab something strong enough for that. I wonder If I put a crossmember on the top of the frame if it would work better, that way it wouldnt hang down so low. I have a bodylift so I probably have room to do it....

hmm never mind. The oil pan would be in the way. I guess I have to try and fab something like the ORU brackets. Next question, where can I buy JUST the shackles?

My frame curves in over 12" right past that too... Your frame should not curve in any sooner than mine since your cab still needs body mounts at there... 1/2" in front of that bracket the frame curves inward.

Build the shackls. Buy some bushing assemblies which come with the steel tube and the urethane bushings and then add the rest to make a shackle. Or hell I'll build you some if your uncomfortable doing it.

I might actually have you do that, im a decent welder, but im not sure if I trust myself with that yet. (Even though I know I could do it... its a mental thing i guess) This year im definatly going to be doing ALOT of practice welding.

So uh, you trust yourself to build the bracket they hang from... But not the shackle? Sure you don't just want to come over here and do it?
