What are you planning to do with the truck. If an intake, headers, exhaust and carb is all you've done to a stock 305, then a mildly built/stock 700r4 is fine. If you plan more HP (400+) then a th400 is a better/easier choice, but you lose OD. A 4l80 keeps OD, but takes a few more things because it's electronically controlled. It needs signals from the throttle.
Info plan on getting every bit of horse power I can out if the thing maybe even a swap for a 350 or maybe jump to a big block I just recently purchased it and did those quick mods to get the ball rolling so to speak would you still recommend the turbo 400 with a 454?
