My truck was stuck for 3 days. When we finally got a mini excavator to get it out some how the rear diff grenaded. The actual center chunk is what went bad. What are my options as far as fixing this? I'm not looking to spend much if possible.

Arb, grizzly, or detroit locker since you go off pavement.

10b? Looks like parts from a Gov-bomb. It was only a matter of time.
POS's ain't worth repairing.
A complete rear dif. from a wrecker, or do it right, & install a Truetrac.
Eaton could be an option. Those can be found in mid-'90's GM station wagons. They're dirt simple to rebuild & can be upgraded with stiffer/softer springs (to suit how you'd like it to work) & better/new clutch plates.

You'll need a install kit, trutrac ( or get a G80 from someone on here that did the swap) ring and pinion gear (if needed) regular gear oil, brake cleaner, shop towels.

I had a tru trac in my last truck and I loved it! However, the oem g80 is good choice for stock application. You can probably pick up a g80 for 150 - 200 bucks

I've got 2 of Gov-locks here. 2 different sized bearing o.d.'s The larger may be for a 14b. Don't know, don't care. I'll never install them in any vehicle I own. And I try to talk people outa them. But if you want one, I can get 'em measured so there's no doubt. Pay for the ride for whichever one is right & it's yours. That may or may not be worth your while. They're fairly hefty. Could be pricey.
I'm tired of moving them around.

My vote is for the Truetrac. Yes it's not a full lockup but there are no small parts, no clutches, and it's built like an anvil.

I swapped my g80 out for a tru trac when installing my 4.88s and it's a world better than the g80.

you need to replace the whole carrier
no you cant use a 14b or one from a mid 90's station wagon
not all 10bolts are the same, off the top of my head there is 4 different size 10bolts

the fact you wheel it go find a 14b SF from a 88-98 6lug 4x4
move the backing plate mounts, weld new ones on or get spacers (assuming the 04 is rear disks)
weld new spring perches and either swap the 10b yoke on or get a conversion ujoint

I have been beating on mine for years now and no issues

Never said it WAS a 14b. Said it MAY be, and to measure the bearing O.D.'s, just for the differences you mentioned.
Of course a 14b wouldn't fit! That's common sense.
Both my trucks are running Eaton style LSD's in their 10b.'s. Both wrecker finds that I rebuilt. Same spline count, too. Out of Impala's. Guess it was just the luck of the draw that it all fit, huh?

...and I'm out.

If you're rebuilding the diff, rebuild the whole unit. Axle bearings, seals.... Do it all. You have no idea where all the little shrapnel went.
I agree. If your truck has a lot of miles on it and you've got it apart it's easier to replace everything now. It would suck to get it back together and have a seal or something go out a short time later.
