I replaced all the pads/rotors on the wife's '99 Tahoe last week. We converted to the Baer kit a few years back, so the brake job this time was relatively simple. Yesterday she tells me she hears an "air leak" when she applies the brakes. It continues to make the sound until after you release the brake pedal. I've never replaced a booster before, so I asking you all for some pointers. On my way out to my garage to get the Chilton's manual and see if there are any tips. Should I rebuild the master at the same time? Thanks for any helpful replies,

How do you like the Baer kit?? Do you have a linkk or info. on it? Im having a terrible time with my '99 K2500 7.4 burban. I love the vehicle cuz it lives to Tow my Grady but Im sick of te crummy braking and panic stops.

Presently puttng new pads/rotors up front and new drums/shoes/cylinders on the rear.

Already replace the proportional valve with new one too

When mine went out I tried to replace it myself and got annoyed as shit and ended up just taking it to my mechanic :rofl2: Unbolting it under the hood and unhooking the master was easy but under the dash where it connects it is a bitch to unhook. I drove by my mechanics place at like midnight and he was out there with a couple guys workin on it :rofl2: he ended up having to break the piece connecting it and just replace it :uhoh:

However he said he had done it before and never had the problem, so hopefully yours is easier.

like stated above the job sucks...plan on laying in an ackward postion...Have a good light cause you will be under the dash most of the time.....As for the master cylinder its up to you.....I change my booster at 205,xxx and didnt bother with the master.....

Yeah I didn't do anything to my master and its still fine, the booster was a couple years ago at least. I definitely agree that the position you have to be in is ridiculous and will hurt your back most likely and yes you'll need a good light. I wished my drivers seat wasn't there so bad while I was doing that :rofl2:

Thanks for the honest replies. It seems like you are all encouraging me to send it to a garage or mechanic. I'm not in the mood to break my back or get frustrated on my weekend. It sounds like it will be money well spent. As for the Baer brake swap, the front is a direct bolt on with larger 13" 2 piece rotors and 2 piston calipers. The rear was a drum to disc swap. The rear axles had to be machined, so while they were out, I had the gears swapped from 3.73 to 4.11 to make up for the difference in 15" diameter to 22" diameter and added a posi and shiny rear cover. As much as I like the look of a slotted rear rotor, the parking brake doesn't work as well. The next generation GM disc incorperated an internal drum parking brake. It was supposed to be a better set up. Baer has a web site
