I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado on which the brake lights wont work. the third brake light comes on when I hit the brakes, but both sides on the tail lights wont work. all the turn signals and running lights work just no brake lights. I've done some reading and heard it could be the turn signal multi switch itself. I don't know if I should replace that or if there is any way to test the lights to narrow down the problem. any thoughts are appreciated , thanks

Check the fuse. My friends dakota did this and his fuse was blown.

Get a test light, have someone step on the brake pedal and test each one and see if you even have power coming out of it, those are known to go bad, once you establish whether or not theres power coming out, see if there's power going in, check the plug that powers it

edit: also, check to see if there's power at the bulb socket

changed the junction block in the back and still nothing. I don't have power going into the block so its a problem between the fuse and the junction block I believe. any ideas?

start chasing wires, the last easy cheap part to throw at it is the brake light switch at the pedal

replaced the brake light switch and nothing

if the 3rd brake light works it not the switch
no power for the truck lights flow through the turn/hazard flaser,just the trailer wiring goes through this

power flows through the following
STOP LPS 20A fuse (under hood)
orange wire to switch
white wire from switch
CHMSL 10A fuse (3rd light)
VEH STOP 10A fuse also under the hood (did you check this fuse?)
then feeds the brake lights via a light blue wire

Blinker switch. Mine is doing the same thing.

My blinker switch will be here Thursday. The blinker switch controls the 2 brake lights. I paid 45 on ebay

Mine is the exact opposite. Third brake light doesn't work but the other ones do. Just trace the wires back. Good luck

it is the problem, ive done everyother thing possible, then i heard the switch controled the 2 lights

if your tail work but the 3rd light doesnt then thats the brake pedal switch, easy cheap fix
