Depends. Shops gotta make profit too. I think online is the way to go. I am slowly acquiring parts to lift my truck pretty high .over the last ten months I have been carefully following craigslist and eBay and been making some really good finds. I'm about 4k into parts but retail I'd almost be at ten by now. my best find yet: 4- 35x12.5x20 Toyo mud terrains. 50% tread only 100 bucks. Crazy good deal

Some of the online vendors can offer a better deal because they buy in huge volumes. But, that's not always the case. In some cases, if you want to be an authorized vendor, you have to agree to "MAP" pricing which means you can't PUBLICALLY ADVERTISE below a certain dollar amount. Buyer beware of non-authorized vendors. Some of these folks buy factory seconds and don't tell you.

So, the answer to the question is that you need to call your local shops and CALL the online dealers to find the best deal.

:shake::shake: Thats exactly how it is around here. The only thing I have found in my area, is tires are the only thing you can actually get pretty cheap without a hook up because its so competitive.

i buy locally, because i support local business, and if you go there enough you will get a connection. plus, if your ever in a bind, its easier to run up town then it is to order online and pay for next day shipping.

so its kinda worth the extra bit of money. only place i dont support is the stealership

I would much rather buy locally, but, the few "speed shops" I know of, I don't like the owners. I used to deliver to a lot of local garages and the speed shop guys had a tendency to rub me the wrong way.

I would not know where to go locally for a set of drop spindles, for example.

Like I said in your other thread, the shop is gonna kill you with the fee of install. Please don't go to 4 wheel parts.

Hi there, my experience was always that online stores have cheaper pickup parts but then the mechanic would charge you more for installation. My advice is to quote your mechanic for his rates (parts+labor) and compare it with the price of the part online+new rate of the mechanic's labor. Hope this helps! :)
