I was curious if it was better to go to the fuse box or to the battery for power for my cobra 29. I have it temporarily hooked up to a cigg lighter so it works but I want to make a cleaner installation and was told they have heard hooking up to the battery might not be as good as hooking up to the fuse box. They didnt understand why either, thanks for the help.

By hooking up to the battery directly you're more vulnerable for problems such as shorting out. Hooking it to the fuse box ensures a good controlled current. But for electronics that require alot of power like amps, need to be hooked to the battery

It'll be fine going to the fuse box. I'd recommend using the one under the dash beside your left foot. There are a few outlets there that are steady 12v and some that are switched with the igniton.
