the computer needs to be reset.
If you did it yourself, you need to reset the comp...i don't remember how to do it, but i think its in your owners manual...
Turn the key to the on position (don't start it) push the gas peddle to the floor 3 time with in 5 seconds. It's now reset.

that sounds right...i forgot about it since ive never had to do it considering i don't own a NBS truck...my dad does but is too lazy to change his own oil...

Why are you running 10w-30?? Truck calls for 5w-30?

doing the key thing wil not do anything for this i would take the neg battery cable off for 5 Min and but back on to reboot you computer on you truck
The gas peddle thing does something, i guess it might not do a permanent reset like disconnecting the battery would do tho..i guess if you had 5 minutes out of the day you should do that then if the peddle thing didnt work out
You reset it by what kevindepot said...It works and is the way you are supposed to do it

Better call GM then because thats what my owners manual says to do. And it has worked EVERY time my light has come on.
As far as the battery trick. I hope you have the code for your stereo or your fucked.
after i changed my oil i did rest the compter and i did everything correct and then a month or so after i changed the oil it started throwing this code.

im going to try the battery trick tomarrow. i hope it works.

kevindepot
i have an after market CD HU so i shouldnt have to worry about the code for the stereo right?
If you have an aftermarket HU then you should be fine with the battery trick.
Is it just on the 00's and up or something? Because I've changed my oil myself the last two times in my truck using 5w30 Mobil 1 and *knock on wood* my light has never came on... is this common or something?
I know the key thing works when you need to change your OIL at 7k

and the only time i have evern seen( check engine oil level light ) it was low once and we filled it up and had to reset the computer by takeing the neg cable off for 5 min as the (oil data) at the GM dealer told us to do
Thanx alot guys for the help. i didnt get a chance to try the battery cable thing today but hopefullty tomarrow. the light has not come on in about 2 days but i know it probly will come back on unless i rest the computer syst. so i will do the battery thing when i get a chance.

thanx again!!!!

It kinda sounds like the issue was slightly mis-understood. There is a oil change indicator that is reset by pressing the gas pedal 3x with key on.

Separtely (your issue) is an oil level sensor that triggers a message to "Check engine oil". So, if the oil is at the proper level and this is coming up most likely it is the sensor or the wiring to the sensor. The sensor should be mounted on the oil pan somewhere.
^^^^^^so what should i do/ check for?
