i used it on my truck about a month after i purchased it...it takes the contaminants out of the clear coat. I used it to take the rail dust off my paint...i used the Meguires (sp?) and was absolutly amazed with its results...if you have the time...do it!

i highly doubt it...the clay bar has the consistancy of silly putty (solid and plyable). Dont do it direct sun light or when the truck is warm. THe clay comes with a detailing spray you spray on the truck and then rub the clay bar over a small surface of the truck. I did it my first time without having any experience with the clay bar and found if very very easy to use.

so you use the clay bar AFTER you wash it really good right? and then wax it and then im good to go for a while right?
You don't have to use it after you wash it. What I do when I wash mine is wash a section, rinse and then wash it again and leave the soap on there then use the clay bar while that section is soapy and wet then rinse. You just need the truck wett and slick to use a clay bar for it to work right. I find that way saves a lot of time.

so do you wash and wax a section at a time...or do you just wash and clay bar a section at a time then wax?

The clay bar works great, my dad cleaned the garage last weekend and now I can't find my clay bar! :bawl: I just bought it too! Guess I'll have to go buy another... I love that thing! Works great on windows too.. hey Carbondogg, I know you (and your bro?) are big on detailing.. which clay bar would you recommend? Mothers? Magic? Any others? :bowtie:

I like the Clay Magic bar better over the Mother's. I really haven't tried any others than Sonüs Clay which is also good too. The Magic bar feels a littler softer to me. You can also buy clay in bulk too. Since we don't even use the detailing spray that usually comes with it that's what we do. Another thing to remember about using clay is that it's probably good for about one time use. Maybe two depending on how bad your truck is. Since it picks up all of those under clear coat particles they will stay in that clay and you don't need that rubbing across your truck. Also another very kick ass product to use is Meguiars #34 Final Inspection. I was never into a "spray". But damn this stuff is great! Just wash your truck clay wax or whatever. And then when it's dry just spray and wipe off! Very easy to use. The best thing about this product is you can use it the next day. So if you take your truck to town that night or something and get a few bugs or people hang on your truck (I hate that) it will get those finger prints, bugs, and fresh dust particles off.

Think of it like a big pencil eraser, it just erases the bad stuff off your truck ..

Yep that's one way of thinking about it! Once you use it you can usually hear a little sound coming from the clay. You can also feel it as your going over it too. Another good way to tell if your truck needs a good claying is to take a ziplock bag (one that is big enough for your hand) and take your hand and put inside it. Then take take it and kinda feel or rub across the paint. Do this after you have washed and you will really feel the difference!!

The only brand I can find around here is the Mother's kit. I already have the Meguiars Quick Detail spray so I don't really need the spray with this kit, and actually I think I will try the method Carbondogg uses instead. So where can I buy just the clay bar? Is there something special about it or is it just ordinary clay?

Nah nothing special at all really. Just the same as the ones that come in the kits with the spray. I just never use the spray that comes with it so that's a waste of money since it's $15 or so. You can but some clay here:
