Ok, so i got this compass/ temp mirror for my 2002 silvy. Its out of a 98 Tahoe. I got it installed yesterday, and it "booted" up when i turned my truck on. for the compass section i had to calibrate it by driving in a circle...so i did that, and the compass works great!

But the temp display says "OC" which i have found out means "open Circuit." So that means i dont have a temp sensor plugged in....

Now the plug that is connected to my mirrors backside has the wires for the temp sensor already there...they are the two on the end one is black w/ a white line, the other is green w/ a white line. So this means the sensor wires are already wired through my truck right? i just gotta find the other end and plug in a sensor?

Well after searching under my hood for a while today i could not find the other plug. MeanGreenz71 thinks it may be bundled in somewhere.

Does anybody know where this plug is? orrrr do you think it just goes to the fuse box (in the engine compartment) and then i have to get the harness from the fuse box to the plug where it goes behind the grille?

I know i could just cut my own two wires and run them through the truck to a sensor on the grille, but if its already wired, i want to run it that way.

Thanks guys

I found a thread a while back when I was doing this that said the plug was between the battery and fuse box. Sure enough, I pulled the fuse box and started looking around between the 2 and saw the 2 wires go into a plug. There was a plug on the other side, but the 2 temp sensor wires didn't go out the plug. Didn't research getting the harness for it, just ran the wires from the plug to the sensor. After that, it worked no problem.

My 01 sierra already had the plug for the sensor in behind the grill. Mine also had the plug for the comp/temp mirror in the headliner. The plug was on the lower right, about a foot off center if looking at the grill. you can see it and possibly get to it from behind the bumper. Memory is a little foggy I did this addition my self 8 years ago.

yea theres def no plug behind the grille, i found a diagram online that shows where its supposed to be, but there was nothing there. Maybe in 02 they took that pigtail wiring out to save some money if the truck was equiped with a manual mirror, why they wired the rest of it into the cab...idk.

im gonna take a look under the fuse box later.

this is exactly correct.

I finally got around to ordering my ambient temperature sensor from a member either here or at FSC, only cost 7 bucks.

I took the plastic shrouding off the fuse box (to do this you need to remove the curved support near the hood spring hinge) and then saw a connector on the side of the fuse box(facing the front of the truck) in between the battery and the fuse box. saw the two colors going into it brown w/ white stripe and green w/ white stripe, but i didnt see them coming out. So i figured that must be the probe wiring.

Sniped em there, added some wire to my temp sensor probe and then connected everything up. I mounted the sensor in front of the radiator on a support with a bolt and nut i had laying around. and it worked perfect.

Super easy to do, just a little time consuming cuz of removing the shroud on the fuse box and i had to remove my grille. But nothing i havent done before.
